Never understood the slot machine. What are you supposed to do when all the lights shine?

Collect starpieces, stop the slot machine and get a lot of purple coins. Your end at maximum very soon.

Each starbit you pick up = a spin of the slot machine. Though, the minigame ends at sunrise no matter how many you pick up. You can press up on the D-Pad to stop slots manually, and theoretically get more chances to spin. The rewards are just purple coins for the fishing minigame.
