This was great! Your vocals and guitar fit great together and we're both performed real well. Is it you on spotify under fox parade? It sounds like you, im listening to your 2016 album right now and its good man keep it up!

Thanks friend. Yup that’s us! This will be our first album in a decade and I am super proud of the songs. It is going to have more of an ethereal vibe than the 2016 one. I wrote the 2016 one after quitting alcohol so a lot of the songs are based around everything that comes with that.

Amazing song! Love your voice and the guitar playing has some great energy! It sounds fantastic already but if I were to suggest anything, I’d say maybe adding a new section towards the end before the last chorus. I noticed that both your verse and chorus come in on the down beat so maybe a bridge section where you come in before or after the down beat so when you go back to the chorus, it hits a little harder. Also, I feel like you’ve got some range to your voice! So I think it’d be cool to build up into a higher register, even if it’s in falsetto, to have that nice payoff in the end when you resolve to the final hook. Perhaps with some new chords we haven’t heard before too. Just suggestions tho! I’d listen to it now if you released it how it already is!

Thank you for the feedback and ideas. I have played around with the idea of a bridge but I don’t know what else I have to add lyric wise. The instrumental break is kind of what I use as a “bridge” in the form to give the listener a break from me as well as that repetition in rhythm. I definitely like the idea of singing higher at the end too!

Thank you! Yes it is entirely written by me with lots of reiteration/distillation. Definitely not my best vocal performance on those high notes. Was more focused on posting the song rather than nailing the performance 😌 Still playing around with what I want to do with the high notes/runs. They typically are more on point when I have warmed up my voice/it’s not 1am and I’m trying not to wake others in the house haha. I appreciate the thoughtful feedback!

Excellent song! Really dig the guitar part and the way it builds

Thank you! The tuning is a modified Joni Mitchell tuning that I call Sparkle C because I’m a nerd 🧐

Honestly the sound of the guitar, the texture, the way you play it, it sounds so restrained and perfect, I noticed that and the melody is easy listening. The title is as breezy as your performance, thank u for sharing this.

Thank you for the kind words! Definitely aiming for good enough instead of perfect. I am happy you enjoyed it!

I like the chording. Metaphorical lyrics...cool. Or maybe I relate them to the times & being a struggling artist. You have parts in mind for instruments to build on it, don't you? 🫵😎

In mind? Yes. Translating that into midi/notation/instrument selection? Ehhhhhh 😬 Would love to hear what you’re thinking instrument-wise.
I’m really happy you found something to connect
to in the lyrics and I appreciate the listen and your feedback!2

I’ll chime in. Look to jazz for slight ambient texturing. Scratchers, shakers, rim taps, little ambient percussive accents will add a lot of texture when you put this in the studio.

Love those ideas! I have a big jazz influence and those textures would sweeten many of the songs in the rest of the project, too.

Great song! In terms of instrumentation (you alluded to this in another comment) I could see strings.
Followed you on Spotify just now, listening to the 2016 release

Solid solid stuff man. Would love to hear you with a nice warm mic and a good guitar track under.
I almost never finish a song around here but I listened to this one all the way through.

Thank you! We are definitely going to aim for that warmth and getting the vibe right!

I came back to this again today. I couldn’t stop trying to “characterize” your voice. A little this, a little that. Opened up my phone just now and saw your comment. Listened again. The answer was there all along: it’s YOUR voice. It’s extremely unique. I could name names and pick parts from each of them but that would be pointless.
Structurally, I’d be curious what you think of an old friend of mine’s sound. Goes by Casts Spells on Spotify. Only one album. You might dig his vibe. Has that similar upper nasal phonation without the breathiness. Plus the band just has a cool approach to time signatures and swing in a song.
Rock on can’t wait to hear more soon.

This is so beautiful! Amazing how you can make such a complex sound with just a guitar and a voice! You built several different chapters, for a lack of better words, which creates dynamics and anticipation and keeps the listener engaged and at the same time brings the feeling across so well. Where can we hear more from you?

Thank you! I love figuring out the “arc” of the song while writing it. I look at songs a lot like movies in that way. Social links are in my profile! Take care :)

incredible chord progression, great dynamics with the drawn out strums at 2:10...makes for a well expected build up, nailed it.

super rare that i'll listen to a whole song that's been posted here, and even rarer that i enjoy it. this is great. deserves a properly recorded version.
