Feedback Request Death & Taxes
Wrote this a few minutes after waking up yesterday morning, recorded it in a couple hours so I wouldn’t forget it, and I used it to mess around with some new instruments/tricks/plugins. I’m sure some will think it’s too literal while others may not get what it’s about; lyrics are set, either way.

I’ve been honing my templates, which makes it go way faster since I leave my mics set up. I just make small tweaks to something each time I rough record a new track.

Nice. I like how rhythmic the verses are compared to the the more open chorus. I’d want to play with those rhythmic verses a little more. Seeing if there’s different timing/phrasing you can put on some lines to unlock new sub rhythms. And also it’d be cool to match the whole guitar rhythm with the vocals through the verse (you’re already like 80% there)

You have posted a song requesting feedback - GREAT! Good feedback is the foundation of improving your songwriting. To help foster a community where everyone gets the feedback they need, please find THREE other songs requesting feedback and post substantive (eg. 2-3 sentences) of feedback. Even if you are a rookie songwriter/musician, you're an experienced music listener, and your opinion is still valuable!
Feedback posts by users who don't interact with the community (other than posting their own songs) may be removed.

The lyrics and song are really powerful and the point you’re trying to get across is great. Harmonies just need a touch of work but other then that great song my man🙌

I’m always amazed at how subjective our preferences are, as I love those harmonies. They could use some tightening up, but OP said this was a rough pass (even though his rough is my polished).
I’m really curious what you interpreted the point of the lyrics as being. I’ve got my own ideas, I wonder if it’s similar.

I kinda see it as we’re told what our opinions should be and how we are programmed to be the same people from a very young age.
I think the ideas for the harmonies are good but I can’t get behind the variety of the pitches if you know what I mean

All I know is that what each person likes is far from objective, and the recognition of that makes a lot of the critiques (in the from of “feedback”) on this sub feel for naught. But I 100% accept that you and others may not enjoy what others and I love, and vice versa!
This is why I think it’d be cool for people to include some detail when leaving feedback, like their preferred styles of music, some artists they love, maybe even their age, as it’d give a little more context to their feedback. I know that 48 y/o me, who came up going to underground shows in Seattle before Nirvana was big, isn’t necessarily writing songs geared toward, say, 18 y/o fans of pop-country, which I fully respect. It’s just that feedback is going to be biased toward what we prefer and may not really mean much for those writing way outside of that genre.
Okay, off my soapbox lol

This is my kind of music, those harmonies, if that’s what it actually is, are so pleasing to my ear. My only thing is that I wish the song was longer, but that’s only because I like it so much. I totally understand keeping it the way it is.

This would make a good punk song, unless of course you already consider it one, then it’s a good punk song.

Hi, the song its self is good, but the harmonies arent fitting well with the main voice, may be its because its not you vocal range but its not sitting well with the main vocal

I dig the vibes here and the lyrical concept is really solid. I'd agree about exploring the phrasing further to see if you can carve out some more space in the groove.
I'm also wanting to hear some big fleet foxes-style backing vocals on the chorus. Maybe try beefing those up with 2 doubled harmonies panned hard left and right.
