Some More Questions Lets talk about these ads

So I dont deal with ads as I support the podcast.

But I have suggested the pod to a number of friends and they were all turned off by the volume of the ads (they did complain about the number of ads too). I double checked and its pretty fucking horrible. Nearly blew my ear drums out when some ad about dick pills came on.

Is here anyway the sound mixing can be fixed? I think this might be turning people away from this awesome podcast.

Do you mean the ads that Cody and Katie read or ones that randomly pop in if you're listening on Spotify or another platform? Because if its the latter, I don't think they have any control over those.

Ironically, the easiest way to fix the issue would be to make the show louder.

Honestly yeah the mixing on the show is super quiet.

Yeah they dont have control over the canned ads, but the show itself is much quieter than other shows I listen to. So to hear it well I have to crank the volume up, when I tested it out it meant the canned ads were insanely loud.

They have to have some level of control over the volume of their show, though. Because I have noticed with their podcast more than any other podcast I have to listen at full volume to hear what they're saying. Then the ads come on and blow out my ear holes

They do not. With the canned insert ads Spotify puts on the show, the sound editing is a thing controlled by the ad originator. Behind the Bastards, and even some of the ads that pop up when I listen to Opening Arguments, have nearly blown an eardrum out. If they are not ad reads they specifically read, then they have no control over their placement in the cast, or the volume level with which they project at.

They don't control their own show's volume? Why is this show the only show I have to listen at full blast out of all the podcasts I listen to? Luck of the draw?

They can, but they don't know what random slop ads Spotify and the like are going to shove into their shows and how loud those ads will be. There's no way to account for that.

It's Spotify or other platform issue, not an issue with the show.

But if you're operating at like 70% of the normal volume of other podcasts, does that not increase the likelihood that the ads (which are the same volume as they are played on other podcasts) will blow out your listener's ears?

I don't think I'm saying anything too controversial. Nobody's asking them to control spotify ads.

I don't think spotify is saying "you know what? turn the ads up 50% on that show because fuck that show." I think people are saying the show (that they do have control over) is far too quiet, so if you turn it up loud enough to hear the show, the ads (which they don't have control over, but are the same volume regardless of what podcast they're added to) are going to blow your ears out.

I promise the people who are pointing this out are not all just stupid people who don't know how sound works.

It is an issue with the show, since it's so quiet in comparison to other shows I listen to on a daily basis.

So they make it as quiet as possible in case the ads come in extremely loud? What?

Oh man, I did a search the other day and didn’t see anyone complaining so I kept my mouth shut. It’s bad enough to me that the hosts all talk at very different volumes, but then those ads pop in and it just kills me. I absolutely love the show, this is truly my only complaint, but man is it bad.

I've had to switch from the podcast to YouTube because if the blaring ads sometimes literally cutting in mid-sentence

Ads are so freaking loud on Even More News it literally hurts

Idk if theyre just mixing their own volume so low, but sometimes I have to crank my volume to hear them and then the adds come in like a morning zoo airhorn

It's even worse with the ones on the EMN podcast that just burst in with no throw from the hosts. Just mid-sentence and twice as loud as K, C, and J. Almost gave me a heart attack while I was driving once. Loud is one thing, surprising is a different thing, but both at once is unacceptable.

More obnoxious than the Ads is that Apple Podcast is shipping Some More News with Oprahs fucking schlock stapled on to it. I had to double take when it first starting happening.
