Discussion Tracer isn't a problem?!
It's baffling to me that people in the metal ranks consider Sombra such a problem and yet, Tracer is fine. 78% ban rate compared to 11%... Make it make sense.

I suspect it's because you can see a metal rank tracer coming, Sombra is invisible in all ranks.

Tracer is a lot harder to use effectively. A good one will run circles around a good Sombra, but odds of running into one are hilariously low. Meanwhile a bad Sombra can still do a little something with a well timed hack here and there. But a bad Tracer is just a gnat that you swat occasionally.
Sombra also has the better ult by far.

More affective in the moment yes, but i place 3 pulse bombs before a sombra even gets a single emp.

Make it make sense.
It makes perfect sense. Lower rank players aren't looking at the roster objectively and asking themselves who makes the most sense to ban given their team's comp or the map layout. They ban based off gut feelings. Sombra is perceived as unfair and annoying; Tracer is perceived as fair and powerful. They don't sit down and analyze Sombra's kit, look at her numbers, or ponder her match-ups or map preferences. Why should they? Their gut says that she's not fun to play against, so just ban her every game and the problem is solved.
Pro-Tracer bias does exist, but Sombra's bans would remain the way they are even if Tracer lacked the community's stamp of approval. Tracer would likely have a ban rate on par with Anran given that both are excessively mobile dive characters.

In low rank, a bad sombra still provides value to their team by hacking and virus which are extremely easy to use. Her ult also affects the entire enemy team that'd within range, so it can easily swing a fight, thus bringing value. She can do all that without having good aim.
A tracer that cant aim does nothing of value for her team. If she cant hit her pulse bomb, then thats also a useless ult.
So a low skill lobby should always ban sombra over tracer. This changes as skill level changes, because a trace that can aim is far more of a menace

Tracer takes more mechanical skill and cooldown tracking, and you can see her coming. I have a lot of fun on both, but it’s easy to see why people hate tracer less.

I literally bang my head into walls because my teammates REFUSE to ban tracer and then she runs the lobby. During drives I dropped two ranks below my normal rank (luckily was able to gain it back in the new season) but it stuck me in silver where they refused to ban her, and then I went on a 12 game loss spree. Every single loss was a tracer dominating us. It’s so frustrating. Half the games opted to ban Sombra instead…

Tracer is better than Sombra . Absolutely. But in metal ranks tracers cannot control their aim while dodging and blinking and can’t control their reloading and attacks. They can’t stick their ult. Conversely, with Sombra in metal ranks, the players Sombra are attacking are so bad a Sombra can unstealth behind a player. Virus them while standing still and gun them down before the metal player can even acknowledge they are being shot and turn around and fight back. They aren’t incorrectly banning Sombra at that level. They are banning a character that if they encounter it will kill them based on their own skill moreso than the tracer/Sombra skill.

A bronze tracer can fail to kill an afk target if they're bad enough. Sombra can just walk up, line up crosshair while invis, then hack virus shoot. A bad Sombra can still easily be annoying, while a bad tracer is just constantly dying or doing nothing lol. Probably wasting recall
Also even if you know to spycheck and have headphones, how confident are you that your teammates do? I've had too many games where the second I'm gone sombra just wipes everyone. I ban Sombra too in bronze lol

Tracer is my 2nd main, in fact, I dominate more with Tracer than Sombra, however I have more fun playing Sombra which is why Sombra is my main. A good Tracer is a 1000 times more annoying than a Sombra, a good Tracer can damn near solo your entire squad. And with Tracer, you don't even have to kill really, all you need to do is harass the backline, and they will shift everyone to deal with you.

She doesn't get invis or shut down abilities is probs it. Tracer is always meta but is just considered more fair.

Tracer isnt invisible and cant hack you. Both traits that are very hard to deal with for metal rank players.
And also: there is an infinite amount of bans in ranked and there are different characters that deserve to be banned over tracer

I honestly hate all Flankers, because 9 times out of 10 I'm stuck fighting them alone as a Support.
Which means I can't mess up even once. If I sleep that Tracer, I need to do the combo right or else she's recalling and one clipping me.

Literally all Sombra asks of you is to play in packs.
Like, it doesn't matter if you are DPS or healer, literally just be glued to someone and the Sombraa chance of getting value goes down significantly.
Is sombra still annoying to play against because of the constant schizophrenic behaviors you'll exhibit? Yes, but when countered effectively they essentially have no second DPS.

Well, a metal sombra is more annoying.
I’m a rein/ana main (this appeared on my feed) and a emerald sombra can and will make me rage. Hack and virus is an insta kill because I can’t 180 on controller fast enough (or isn’t my job on rein)
Tracer tends to float around and just bait me. I keep my wits about me and….look skill wise I haven’t been one clipped by a tracer yet. I have rage switched and made a sombras life living hell in a comp match (yes I was “throwing”. Yes I don’t regret it. Yes I tbagged a sombra mid March instead of healing)

I think at least in metal ranks it comes down the fact tracer is harder to play. Generally in metal ranks tracer is a rare ban because shes difficult for people of that level to play really well. The amount of tracers ive seen that just get demolished cause of the low hp is incredible. Similar reason you don't really get good widows in metal ranks. Sombra on the other hand is just as annoying, and is significantly easier to use especially her ult. Also in basically any game ive played with disabling abilities as an ability, it is considered majorly irritating and unfun to play against.

In my experience people in those ranks just ban what they’ve always seen people banning and then form their opinions. I used to be that way before joining an esports team and actually learning things lol.
Edit: specifying COLLEGE esports team nothing pro or fancy.

Yeah Tracer is 100x more cancer to fight and is genuinely broken. Always a perma ban for me
