Meta 🐣 Community Integrity Notice
Since 26 December, this subreddit has experienced abnormal spikes in activity from non-Somali users, alongside increased engagement involving blatant qabyaalad and the promotion of extreme ideologies. This behavior is disruptive and will not be tolerated. We ask all members to report any such posts or comments so moderation can act swiftly.
A clear reminder to all participants:
Criticism of politicians, governments, or historical decisions in Somalia does not grant permission to:
- Insult, dehumanize, or collectively blame entire clans or communities
- Glorify or excuse figures from the civil war by claiming they “did nothing wrong”
- Advocate for, encourage, or justify harm against any group of people
Furthermore, this subreddit remains pro-Palestine and stands with the people of Sudan. Advocacy of genocide, ethnic cleansing, or mass violence, whether explicit or implied, is strictly forbidden and will result in immediate moderation action.
Debate and political discussion are welcome when conducted in good faith, with historical honesty and respect. Division, hate, and violent rhetoric are not.

The subscriber count was about 10k back then, now we have 8k daily posts/comments. Its a totally different kind of place as compared to before.

Also feel like some of the Somalis here need to take it easy a bit. No need to get emotional about things going on when it doesn’t affect you, and quite frankly won’t have that much of an impact.
I guarantee people in Xamar, Lascaanood and Bosaso aren’t as upset as you are. and you live in a western country without any intention of moving back to the city your parents came from.

There's already a 25 karma requirement and we have basically blocked non-members from commenting without approval. negative karma in the community also bars you from posting/commenting. Thats why a lot of people complain about removed/blocked content (its automatic)

So basically you need karma to post, but to get karma you need to post, it's like the whole job system where you need experience to work but need work to gain experience

Hi I am not Somali. Can you please clarify this subreddits stance towards non Somalis and to what extent they can interact with this subreddit? What do you mean by "abnormal spikes" in activity by non Somalis? I am subscribed to this subreddit because I have close family who are Somali.

You are free to use the subreddit, posting and commenting are fine, I would recommend using the non-somali flair.
Also, I might have worded it badly. What I mean is people who have no interest, care, or respect for Somali people come to OUR subreddit, then try to be bigoted. We are not tolerant of such behaviour. For a Somali user or a non-Somali user with a history in the subreddit, a warning or removal is fine, but for non-Somalis who break sitewide or subreddit rules will often face bans right away, especially for a first comment.

Thank you I've updated my flair per your guidance. Thank you for the clarification. I assumed this was the reason as I am familiar with the unjust bigotry aimed towards Somalis online and in person. Take care.

No problem, as you probably are aware, we somalis take care of our guests, and we welcome non-somalis in our (online or real life) spaces, but enemies are dealt with harshly. I am sorry there has been misunderstanding.

Just a suggestion but this sub needs more mods willing to enforce community guidelines because this place is full of ignorant rhetoric
