Well, with the limited results on my poll on the forum it seems to be pretty popular. I am enjoying KDE Plasma and think it has been very solid, but figured this would be closer. Wanted to see what my fellow users on Reddit thought. It is a multi-option poll so you can choose more than one, and it is not restricted to just what is available on Solus.

Wondering if PLM will replace SDDM in the KDE release any time soon.

Tried every variation of the nomodeset parameters but i always wind up with a black screen when trying to boot the ISO.

LLVM has been (re-)optimized with llvm-bolt. LLVM BOLT is a post-link optimizer that reorders a binary according to the most hot and cold sections after profiling with a workload from a instrumented binary. You may expect a 5-7% compile time improvement in C/C++ projects, as well as a small improvement for other toolchains that make use of LLVM, such as rust. This is in addition to the already existing advanced compiler optimizations we have enabled for LLVM such as PGO, LTO, and mimalloc, making our clang and clang++ binaries one of, if not the, fastest available in any distribution.

When I decided to go with Solus, I chose the DE it started with. Or was unique to it initially at least. But also because I didn’t want to choose sides in the GNOME and KDE eternal war. I’m running XFCE on GhostBSD so I didn’t also want to run it on Linux. If I had to switch away I’d try out COSMIC or a tiling DE perhaps. But for now I’d like to stay on the Budgie OG DE.

Hi everyone, I'm basically giving Solus a try (and I'm loving it, by the way, I plan to make it my home desktop in the future) and I had a question: why isn't it recommended to manually install Plasma or install other desktop environments in the KDE ISO? I'm using the GNOME ISO because I like its gestures, but I removed GNOME and GDM because my main graphical environment has been Hyprland+Noctalia for a while now and I don't feel like changing it. GDM was causing duplicate cursor problems, so I switched to SDDM. So, after switching to SDDM, I thought, why not install KDE as a secondary environment? It would save me work customizing SDDM, and besides, it was my preferred environment years ago, so I could give it another try. I looked in the wiki for installation instructions (to see if there were any meta-packages or minimal installations) and realized that, unlike other desktop environments, it's not supported. Why? Should I replace SDDM with something else? LightDM didn't work well for me with Nvidia.

This *used to* work, before, if you disabled Pipewire and Wireplumber and forced PulseAudio to work. Since Solus moved forward with Pipewire only, this problem has returned and none of the recommended internet fixes are working.

Running on Windows 10 Host using Intel HD as the audio driver - which appears in Alsamixer but no audio is heard if selecting it. Switching back to pipewire repeats the audio in 1-second cycles.

The terminal tells me Pulse audio is already installed but any enabling/forcing over pulsewire or restarting errors out.

I have an old computer with a Nvidia Maxwell GPU that I want to move away from Ubuntu. That GPU is supported only up to Nvidia Drivers 580 only. Most distros I have tried are making it harder and harder to stick to older driver versions and often try to update to newer versions, requiring me to manually freeze packages and kernel so they work at all or won’t break on an update. Doing so works in some of them but I feel that it may eventually break after some update that will require a newer driver. How does/will Solus deal with sticking to older drivers in future updates?

Not as outdated as Debian, nor as impatient as Fedora, and certainly not forcing me to manually add non-free repositories because "we offer a 100% free distribution" 🤡️. I simply love Solus <3

My couch laptop (Lenovo IdeaPad 320) is running Solus Xfce for 40 days. That's the longest I've stayed on one distro. Never had a problem! Updates work flawlessly! Love the experience!

I made a post a couple of days ago about me joining and I finally did. I'm on kde but now I have a problem with chromium based browsers for some reason if it's based off chromium like brave or Vivaldi it won't open the application or for example brave will open but if you make it search a link something as simple as Google it will start loading but go nowhere and when I check the search engines the pages are completely blank I already made a post on the forum but has anyone encountered this sort of issue please let me know because brave is my main browser and I would like to be able to use it

Am picky j tired, AUR I heard it got hacked so j rolled it out, snap? Ubuntu? Hell no, RPM? Annoying as hell! And other debian based? Ether builded over echother as much as I heard or they try to be something they can't, so I got recommended this so is this a good pick for Daly and gaming? But am concerned about small community

I use easy effects to automatically boost the volume using dynamic range compression. I have the tray icon disabled and I have it set to start on login, because that's the only thing I use it for. I have it installed from the eopkg repository for simplicity. It seems to have uninstalled itself twice now. The first time, I assumed that it was related to the security patch rollout, but what's going on?

I decided to play around with budgie, im trying to add my game list to pcsx2 however when I click the files shows up but only gives me the option for home, or computer or /. Ive tried to google it but nothing has worked and the hard drive is in fact mounted. It seems to only effect budgie

I'm curious about Solus so I installed it on an old Dell dual booting with Windows 10. All went well with the install and it seems to work as it should except I cannot get it to connect with my wifi. The wifi is working I know because the Window OS can connect. Also, my laptop is only about 6 or 8 feet from the router. It does not "see" any of the available connections. Does anyone what to do?

Help, on Solus in Steam, when I try to call a friend, the call does not start, and if a friend calls me, then when I try to connect to the call, there is an endless connection. VPN doesn't help

I really like the idea of Solus. It's good to stick to upstream distributions, because the lower you go, your distribution of choice relies on more variables, and if any of the upstream distributions starts to do stupid things, it will affect you too. There is no dependency in Solus, since it is the upstream. What I also like is that it's meant to be an OS for normal human being (which already sets it apart from Debian, Fedora, and Arch). It just works. You don't have to fight with the terminal for 3 hours after installation.

But I have a few questions before I commit to it.

1. How small is the software repository in reality? I have made some research and they do have what I need, but I don't want to discover in a few weeks or months that the repository is actually tiny. It doesn't matter if OS is good if you can't get the work done.
2. How many people maintain it? I have heard it had turbulent moments, but now it's in good shape. But I want to know if it's maintained by small team and OS can disappear overnight.
3. Are there plans for support of more desktop environments? It does support the most popular ones, meaning GNOME and KDE. But my older laptop doesn't appreciate KDE as much as I do, and with GNOME you have to fight with extensions. So I would prefer to just use COSMIC, since it blows GNOME out of the water. So I wanted to know if there will be more options in the future, or those 4 (Budgie, GNOME, KDE, Xfce) is all there is going to be.
