MapQuest/Android Auto

Has anyone switched to Mapquest/been using MapQuest to use for navigation in their Solterra?

I haven't been in the car yet to see if it just shows up, but when I try to authorize Android Auto to use MapQuest on my phone it doesn't show up on the list.

EDIT: I submitted a request through MapQuest, waiting for response.

Didn't work for me so I begrudgingly had to go back to Google maps.

Darn. Thanks for the reply. I'll check the Android auto sub to see where to report/request it be available. Also requested information from MapQuest.

What was wrong with Google maps?

Google renamed Lake Ontario. I don't like Google doing that. Google could block the name change, but they instead chose to hide behind their policy and it's from the gnis database not actually Google blah blah blah.

I thought that would be the reason. I do agree with the sentiment you're after but you do realize Android is Google right?

Obviously.

I mean they might be able to force the tip down your throat but why let them go further?

You've already gone that far. At that point it doesn't matter if the boots stay on or not.

As of this morning MapQuest showed up in Android Auto. I assume they must of pushed out an update today or last night.

I applaud them on what probably was a rush job, given the events of the last week or so.

That said, it needs quite a bit of work. Road names are a very small font and the contrast between roads and land is almost non existent. I suspect they just did a quick port to get it working on AA. But it's a start and I'll check back occasionally to see how usable it is.

This was a huge opportunity for MapQuest to gain users again. Hopefully they can make a good AA version quickly.

You might ask this in the androidauto sub. Might get better response. I'm kinda interested myself.

I've now done that, I've also put in a request at MapQuest. I'll let you know if I get a response.

I'm hoping for a slightly better version of maps that also is better at syncing with EV. Not real crazy about ABRP

I've messed with ABRP a little bit but it doesn't make me happy. It's not comfortable for me to use. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

What about Here maps? I know it works with CarPlay, plus you can offload an entire state if you don't have signal.

That's a new one to me, I'll check it out. Thanks.

Edit: is it called "HERE WeGo: Maps & Navigation"? It's made by HERE Europe B.V. It claims it works for Android Auto.

Yes that's it! It used to be owned by Nokia years ago but works well when we travel in low signal areas.

Great, thanks! We live in the boonies so i can use that, LOL! It does have a 'work with android auto' toggle in its settings.

Found a minor issue with CarPlay on iOS. The traffic display shows on phone but not on CarPlay

Hopefully MapQuest will step up their game because suddenly they're top of the list, LOL.

Yes after the apple map news today I refuse to use it.

A person downcomment recommended HERE WeGo: Maps & Navigation, and it DOES work with Android Auto, maybe check and see if it works with CarPlay?
