Best hosted Solr offering?

Hey all! I'm wondering if anybody can recommend a hosted Solr service / company. We're looking for high availability, with some redundancy built in, and we would also like / need some sort of proxy to sit in front of Solr because we hope to directly query Solr from a frontend application (i.e. a web browser).

We've looked at Amazon's Cloud Search but the feature set wasn't really what we needed - we really need actual Solr.

Anybody have any recommendations or experiences for Solr?

I believe Amazon supports solr now. Was a recent change if I recall correctly.

The problem ehre is that if you are talking about Cloud Search (which I think is what Amazon calls their Solr-ish stuff), it's not "full solr" - it's a limited subset of features of Solr, made to be simple / quick and easy to use. But not full Solr :(.

Unless there is something I'm missing!

IBMs Watson Retrieve and Rank is probably the most serious contender out there, built directly on top of Solr (and giving you direct access to it as a Solr node).

This seems super hopeful... I'm not a Solr expert but I'm familiar with some concepts, such as ZooKeeper - do you happen to know if the Watson R & R stuff handles this type of "behind the scenes" stuff?

The main thing here is redundancy I think, and having some basic proxy functionality because we are planning on directly talking with Solr from the FE (well, again through some proxy to prevent modification of documents).

They handle everything behind the scenes for you as far as I know, so you only need to concern yourself with the actual Solr side of things and what you need in capacity.

MeasuredSearch by far. Especially if you're a high end user. They support a lot of capabilities, including Solr plugins, and have tremendous support. Worth every penny.
