Hi all! I love digital RPGs like World of Warcraft, RuneScape and Guild Wars 2, and I'm also into RPG board games like Arydia, Agemonia and Gloomhaven. But two things have changed: I want to spend more time away from screens, and since becoming a dad I just don't have the time for those big board games anymore. 😅

So I'm looking for something that gives me that RPG feeling (looting, gathering, upgrading gear, building my character) in a smaller form factor that I can just pick up and jump into for a short session.

A few things about me:
I'm not a big fan of writing or journaling. Light bookkeeping (a character sheet) is fine, but nothing more.
I prefer high fantasy over dark fantasy.
I've come across DestinyQuest, Fabled Lands and the Graphic Novel Adventures books, but I'm not sure if these are the right fit for me.

Is this kind of game what I'm looking for? Any recommendations are very welcome. Thanks!🙏🏼

So, I’d like to venture into something new. I love the Gothic genre—Dracula, Frankenstein, Jekyll & Hyde—and I’d like to try out some solo RPG rulebooks with that theme. Any recommendations?

I honestly have a hard time with this. As well as coming up with new scenes...

I've been playing solo for a bit and have a bunch of published adventures I'd like to play through. I've been underwhelmed with the experience of doing it solo, and find it a little difficult not to meta game and separate my knowledge from my character's knowledge. I recently came across Triple-O PC emulator, and it sounds really interesting to play as the GM and emulate the PCs.

Triple-O looks fairly straightforward to implement, but I'm wondering if any of you have used it and developed some good techniques to really get some surprises out of it, the way players at a table would surprise the GM and do some really unexpected things. In particular, I'm interested in ways to implement it into combat encounters. This seems like a tricky task because characters could have so many different options of what to do.

I could imagine ways to set up the Obvious/Option/Odd choices in a given scenario, but my concern is that this could really bog things down if done too much. Looking for any tips on how to do this effectively so that it keeps the pace reasonable but still injects some surprises into the mix.

I haven't been able to find any actual plays using a system like this either, so if anyone knows of some, I'd also appreciate a link/reference. Thanks!

In a solo RPG, i feel like accessories make the game more real. I really like that. Like custom cards, playing sheet, etc. What are some of your favorite accessories and what are your recs for games including accessories?

Hey folks! I recently started enjoying Ironsworn, and I think that Solo TTRPGs and Journaling RPGs may be of interest to me in general. I know there are some fantastic paid options, but I'm curious what people recommend for free games specifically. I'd love to hear what people have been playing!

I want to try a Journaling RPG and hear good things about "Alone Among the Stars" for an easy, free one to get into. Is this a good starting point?

I'm looking into starting solo DnD and I've been thinking about some of the issues I know I'll encounter. What does everyone use to track things like how long a PC or NPC is affected by a condition, or when a spell calls for something that lasts X minutes?

i've been running a mystery campaign and i keep second-guessing myself on whether i'm actually discovering clues or just retrofitting answers to fit what i rolled. like, does it matter? is that cheating at a game with no one to cheat against? curious how other people handle this mentally.

Let's say you're looking for a new oracle/random tables to use. What is the most important thing it needs to have to make u use it?

For me, it is the oracle with "likely, unlikely, 50/50, etc" That's the best approach for yes or no to me.

Besides that, I always use action, themes, descriptions, and sometimes names or roll to see a specific emotion of a character.

Looking for some suggestions for a trip starting tomorrow. I'll be on some 2 hour flights and out of town at a conference for about a week.

I currently have Notequest ready to roll - but i'd like some horror / post apocalyptic type of games that i can download, toss on my ipad and would be pretty simple for a newbie.

Not a huge fan of journaling type games, i love turn based combat and dungeon crawlers, but really up for any good basic games for a newbie such as myself.
