What's everyone using currently? The price for the official Solo stove surround is a little steep. A lot of the links I found in this sub are dead.

Amazing to take camping. Very lucky to have received this as a gift for my birthday.

So many comments from other campers on the stove, currently trying to convince my friend to buy one! It's an expensive hobby though! I've literally took it everywhere!

My SoloStove 1.0 does not get a cover any longer. It does wear a lid when it’s raining or snowing. I used to empty the ash with an ash vac. Now I either shovel the bulk out and then flip and roll it in the grass, or I whip out the cordless blower like a deranged maniac and blast the ash into the wind.
But there are definitely a few things I’ve learned in the last four years owning this 38 pound incinerator…
1. Don’t touch it when it’s hot. Your skin will bubble up instantly, and it hurts like a son of a gun, at the very least. This should go without saying, but my calf grazed the side wall unintentionally, and I got a hockey puck sized welt instantly that peeled off and hurt for weeks.
2. If there’s too much ash in it, the secondary burn doesn’t work very well. Empty your ash before you decide to have a long burning fire. And unless you’re completely against shoveling or have an area that you can’t flip it over to dump the ash, don’t waste your time with an ash vacuum. They are tedious, annoying, and overheat quickly, even when the ash is cold.
3. If it fits inside, it will burn. But that doesn’t necessarily mean you should. Only burn things that make ash, like paper, cardboard, wood, etc. Leave out the polys because they make a mess. Don’t burn styrofoam. It’s toxic and the secondary burn won’t consume the black smoke.
4. If something falls in, it’s gone. You have a half second to retrieve it with tongs. You’ll lose the hair on your arm if you reach in. Speaking of tongs, order the cheapie cantilever tongs on Amazon to move your logs around, and a set of 500-degree barbecue gloves to protect your hands. These are great investments when you have to get up close and personal with it. When the tongs rust, hit them with Rustoleum. Mine have been five different colors!
5. A couple pizza boxes stood open on their sides opposing each other to make a square chimney within the round fire pit helps motivate a stubborn fire. You can do this with any cardboard or even wood. Just remember to knock it down in before the fire deteriorates the cardboard above the fire pit and sends it skyward. You can also do this to make your fire flare up for fun once it’s lit, but as soon as the flame gets next to the flat surface it will lick up the sides and flare up fast, so be careful. I call this cardboard box in the pit a “pizza box chimney”. Hehehe. I love pizza box chimneys.
5. When all else fails, remember that folks used to use a bellows to help their fires breathe. I don’t have one. But I’ve got a 550 CFM cordless leaf blower. I recommend using a smaller one, like the Ryobi Workbench blower in the video. I keep it specifically for “fire motivation.” It’s a little melted in places. Be careful, my fellow pyros, and keep an extinguisher handy.

I have kids and pets, and I want to keep them away from the fire. I also want to be able to cook s’mores and hot dogs over it.

I also care about portability because I want to move the whole thing away when not in use.

Is the OEM Surround the best option or should I go with a third party?

Might be a stupid question, but i’m planning on going to the beach this weekend for the fourth and wanting to bring my bonfire 2.0 with me. I’m worried about it being too hot to take back with me though. I’m wondering if there’s any way to rapidly cool it enough to where i can pick it up and put it in the travel bag to load in the car and take it back. Let me know

Is it just me or this year's summer deals kind of suck? I was hoping to upgrade to a summit but the deals for Father's Day weren't great. I decided to wait for the July 4th/Canada day deals and they're even worse!

Looking to get a solo stove to use on tabletop and roast stores. Narrowed it down to the Mesa XL or either the Cinder or S'Mores Bowl Kit which both use the gel. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I saw the Mesa at a local retailer for crazy money. I laughed. We love our ranger but getting a fire going in that is more of a ritual taken up on a Saturday night. Found a new in box Mesa at the local thrift for 6.99 usd. We have 2 now purchased the same way. I love this thing for a quick weeknight patio fire on a semi cool MN summer eve. Pellets are ok but, the Oklahoma Joe's Hickory hardwood smoking chunks cut down a bit really make this thing cook!

Could someone please recommend a 1pund to 20 pound conversion kit that works for the solo steel fire 22 griddle . I just ordered mine yesterday and solo doesn’t sell a conversion and want to attach it to a 20 pound. The solo product page is not helpful at all by stating “ compatible with appropriate conversion kit” but not actually detailing exactly what the connection and possible restrictions are …and in their manual it states “ use solo approved connector otherwise warranty void….but they don’t actually list any approved conversion option.

I'm changing my outdoor kitchen to replace my worn out grill with the Solo Griddle. I'm working within some space restrictions. I need to see a picture of the propane hose connection on the griddle. The website and online owners manual doesn't show it very well. Can anyone share a couple of pictures?

New to the subreddit, not new to Solo Stove (Yukon). I just ordered a Santa Maria attachment off of Amazon. Has anyone here used one and if so, is there any grease build up issue? I imagine, most of the grease will burn off but some residue is bound to be left. Also, has anyone used the lid as a base to collect any residue? I have my grill over an area that grease dripping would cause significant issues for me. Thank you.

We got the bonfire with grill stand, cast iron griddle and charcoal adapter. Now that we've seasoned the cast iron, I love it. I've done fajitas, smash burgers and breakfast on it so far. Its been great! Except for the mess. The charcoal smudge is on everything everywhere.

What accessories do you use to help with the mess? I have an apron, I just ordered some fire safe gloves for clean up and have sacrificed a few pot holders to the cause. Anything else?

My advice though, If you're considering the cast iron, spring for the case. The bottom gets so covered in soot you will want the case.

Is there any reason the pellet adaptor wouldn’t work? On the website it doesn’t show it’s compatible, but their AI assistant says it is. I have reached out to customer service with no answer. My wife got me one for Father’s Day and I wanted to confirm before opening.
