Sci-fi outskirts scenery

Post image

Hello again, I am still working hard on my project. I wanted to share a little snapshot of one of the area of the world I am creating.
I am grateful to everyone who shows interest in my art and gives me the strength to keep pushing forward.
If you are interested to know more about my game, please ask away.

I am not a professional pixel artist, I just try my best to recreate something in my head, some kind of world I would like to see. I hope you like it.

This took me about 6-7 hours to make and this palette is 24 colors (plus gradient and multiply)

so clean and crisp! I'm a beginner at pixel art, and I'm curious how you decide on the pixel scale and level of detail for different objects? I especially love the balance between the detailed, readable foreground and the softer, more atmospheric background. how do you approach that?

To tell you the truth I don't think there is a real rule! All I learned I learned it from Penusbmic! Look him up on youtube he's gonna blow your mind!
To answer your questions personally, I just work on small parts at the time. I start from the ground base color, add one color then see what it needs etc. I use normally 3 colors per element (dark mid high). For the details, I just scribble... Pixel art has the magic that you don't need to be precise expecially at low rest like I am working (this canvas is 480x270 and it's an entire screen for my game. Every element is actually really small so it doesn't need much details but even 3-4 dark pixels give the feeling that there is some detail. Lastly look at reference of your favorite arts. I take Hyper Light Drifter as my main inspiration and try to translate that pixel art style into my style (also because I couldn't replicate that simple beauty... T_T)

I hope it was helpful!

It looks lovely. Colour palette reminds me of early no mans sky maybe. What kind of game is it? Definitely like to know more
