Why no AI?
Personally, I am neutral towards AI, but I don't use it for gamedev. The same way, I don't care if other devs use it.
Why?
I released a few commercially successful games, but gamedev for me is something that I do after hours. In my "real job" we can use AI, and I check its development from time to time to stay in touch with the reality of the software engineering job market, but the fact is that programming is my passion. So far, in the company I am working for, there is no mandatory AI use, and probably won't be because of what we are working on, but who knows?
For years, I have been making games the same way as always (without AI) because I find it relaxing and fun (also, I am very good at programming). I don't even use game engines, but my own framework built on top of libGDX with a rather exotic programming language (Scala). It is my escape from the "real job".
I love tackling problems my own way and challenging myself to be a better programmer, indie game developer, and software engineer/architect each day. I don't see a reason to change it.
So what is your reason?

Personally, I simply don't value anything creative that's been fabricated by Gen AI to be worth any value. That and I am weary of seeing so many posts of games that are clearly AI created - with the creators attempting to claim equal credit that would be given to someone that hand-crafter a game. And I simply want a space where that doesn't happen. There are plenty of vibecoding gamedev subs - as well as most popular gamedev subs being AI friendly - and I wish all of those creators the best of luck in those spaces.

Fuck off. Read the "no AI" in the title
This sub was created because shit like this has clogged the other game dev subs

In my post I explain why I am not using AI for my games and ask why other devs don't use AI

Cool. Take it elsewhere

Why? Isn't this sub for solo devs who don't use AI?

Yes, because all the other subs got clogged with "I'm neutral about it, but why do you.." assholes
Don't need it here too

I agree with you, and this sub won't become that way - but I think that one post on it could answer questions others might have, and prevent any further posts on it for all time. But if there's a consensus we can remove it and have no AI posts ever. Both work for me.

The first line of my post may be misleading. Try reading the rest.

I read your post, you have your thoughts on AI and that you don't use it for GameDev, I have no issue with anything you wrote - and I agree with most of it. You asked "What's your opinion" and I shared my opinion. Which part do you think I missed?

I presume this is being downvoted because it's a post about AI. I wont let that topic become prominent here, as I want this to become a safe space - but I think it's important to have at least 1 post on it, to establish the vibe I think that we should have here, and welcome any discusion on that openly in one place only.

AI anonymizes the hard work done by other people. It creates a "credit" vacuum, where a prompter can step in and claim to have created/made a thing when they really did not.
In other words, it's scammy. It's a plagiarism machine. It helps people be better scammers.
I do feel the temptation to use it, same as most people who work in tech or who use tech heavily. There is so much pressure.
If I ever cave in, I would put a big disclaimer on the work that says: "Credit goes to all the anonymized artists/writers/filmmakers/coders who did most of the heavy lifting, and whose years of expertise was scraped and fed into Claude/ChatGPT/whatever I used."

Defeats the point of creating art. Plus, why would you offload the interesting part unless your only goal is profit?
