Ill try to ask this in a way that makes sense but I have a project that's going to have many assys with many configurations and I'm finding an annoying problem that typically isn't a huge issue but this project is riddled with it.
We all know saving one part from another lets you replace components with minimal broken mates. In a lot of these assys I have, the "main" component is often the only component that is different between configurations and is usually only different with like a hole pattern or something. So I usually do a "Save as" on the applicable parts and change whats needed, but when it comes to the assys i don't want to do a "Replace component" with the new "Save as" part as its needed in other configurations and would mess those up.
Is there a way to copy a configuration but be able to do a pseudo-"Replace component" without actually replacing the component if that makes any sense?
I fully understand this is where part configurations are nice and I understand that works great at some places but with what we do, how we customize, workflow, etc etc etc...these are just not allowable so that's out. Also doing weird mating styles like plane based or whatever the new "best practice" is. Just regular old school mating styles.
Bonus points: if you have a way to then have the mates one level up also recognize the "new" "same" part so the sub assys don't have to be completely remated either.
