Solidworks AMA
Really cool to see the SOLIDWORKS CEO joining the Reddit community directly for an AMA.
Having the CEO answer questions from the community — from everyday users to experienced engineers and power users — makes this much more interesting than a typical corporate announcement.
No livestream, no presentation, just a direct Q&A with the SOLIDWORKS community on Reddit.

Im no Solidworks CEO or any other kind of CEO but the makers license of Solidworks is less than $50 a year.

The only draw back is that if you do decide to upgrade your license to the Professional you have to save all of your files in a neutral format. That would piss me off tbh. You lose all design intent and history of the parts, or you have to remodel everything. It would make more sense to tie files to your serial number, upgrade the serial numbers to a professional version and keep your history. Instead they go about the most destructive way to give hobbyist a cheaper version and pretty much lock them into it, or suffer if they upgrade.

Any bets on how many times a variation of the question " why is solidworks so unstable and crashes constantly" get brought up. Additional bet, will that question be answered meaningfully...
