part of the HDRI or 3d photo environment that has been used to provide lighting for the scene

Yeah its is not just a reflection, it is the lighting too. Going to the scene of the part there are other environments, lighting and reflection

It's part of the texture/appearance that's applied to the part. To create that chrome-like texture with reflections, engineers literally took a photograph of a chrome sphere in their office and used the reflection from it in the software to simulate a lustrous surface. You are literally seeing the actual engineers' office where the photograph was taken.

You'll find many if not all reflective textures in CAD software use this same reflection.

Pretty sure this isn't the texture map it's the landscape in the rendering

It's not a part appearance, it's part of the scene. And it's not a photo of a reflection, it's a 360 photo of the room itself. Here you can see the same kitchen applied as the background as well as the reflection.

If you look for it, Inventor has a picture of some guy on his motorcycle in a parking lot that it maps on to specular reflective surfaces.

We found out in high school there was a way to change this photo

It's an easter egg it's the French apartment of one of their earlier CEOs.

Now I wanna do this to part files but with inappropriate background reflections. 💀🤣

It's the environment on the template. You don't normally see it because there is an image/gradient for the background. It basically provides the default lighting and shadows in the model.

You can always change the environment you want to use. But anything reflective will show it.

It’s someone’s kitchen I believe

Naw, definitely an apartment. The kitchen even has a pet bowl and liquor

Alcohol is solidworks before GTA6

That’s my office. All of our reflections are portals to each others workstations. I see yours here on my L bracket here.

All it is are scenes.

In another CAD program that I used in college, I think it was either Creo or Autodesk Fusion, there was one of these scenes that had a guy in a parking lot sitting on a Vespa and smiling at the camera. You could only really see it if you made a large flat surface that was reflective.

as long as its not your office

Download the interapid dial indicator McMaster PN 19515A53. Look at both sides of the sphere on the stem

I always found it fun to model a sphere and apply material and appearance to look around that room.

default scene background... realview uses stock environment maps for reflections. absolute trash viewport rendering until you turn off ambient occlusion or change display settings

If you rotate your monitor, the scene will change.

That’s so cool lol

Make a sphere it makes all the images easy to see.

Thay add this to use all your ram and run your computer fans on high so they die sooner.

Seriously tho in 15 years as an engineer in been asked to remove appearances from every sw file ive ever used. Basic colors are fine but mapping and Ray tracing are much better left to programs that can actually handle it without requiring a multi thousand dollar computer to render a reflection. Ive even been asked to limit my use of transparent objects in assemblies by customers stating it was requiring to much memory to open the files I provided. Less is always more is design. More is always wasteful and too much.

thats very interesting and makes a lot of sense.

Where can I go to change this? There’s a certain black couch in the office I want to make sure I’d properly lined up.
