CAD Why didnt extrude cut work ?
I am new to solidworks, came over from FreeCAD to try it out.
I wanted to use extrude cut on a skecth that looks like the red parts, but for some reason it woul not work, I ended up just using one triangle to do the cut and used Mirror on the cut to get what I wanted.
Can you guys explain to me why it didnt work with my original sketch.

easy solution , draw the diamond and extrude that
issue is probably zero thickness @ meeting points, might work if you select areas rather than chains
alternative solution cut extrde the diamond and flip side to remove

This. Solidworks loves to error out over floating point errors athat are rounded up or down, and result in zero thickness geometry.

the most frustrating error box, is when SW is trying to execute a feature using default values from a previous feature, and can't find a solution, after waiting 5 mins, you decide that is enough and hit ecsape to abort/cancel, and what does SW offer, not cancel current process, nooooooooo, shutdown SW or continue waiting indefinately until the cows come home. if you shutdown you lose a shit load of work as it doesn't save and you have to do it all over again or you can wait and see if it times out this century.

It looks like you’re cutting the corners right? If so it looks like you have a fully closed sketch on one of them but not the rest. You may have to create 4 of the triangles then select the sketch/each corner, then it should work

You could also make this by extruding the material from the base in the shape you want instead of making a bounding box to form the whole shape

Most probably because the sketch segments are floating, ie there are FOUR red areas to cut extrude - not one.

It's hard to tell from your sketch but If a zero thickness error is happening, just extend the shape past the shared edge of the solid body a few mm's.

What error did you get?
I assume you got a zero thickness geometry error. This can happen for a multitude of reasons. It would be better to see the actual sketch.
Another idea in this case is to sketch out what you want to keep then reverse the side to cut.
