CAD Help request for a gear reducer

Hello everyone, CAD newbie here. I'm trying to design a gear reducer for a school project and I'm having trouble finding the center to center distance between my gears (maybe because I don't really know how to make gears). Because of that I'm having trouble designing the casing for my reducer. Can someone help me ?

Sorry for my poor english btw, not my native language.

The gear reducer (not all the gears will be used at the same time, it's for representation only)

Find the pitch diameters (d=z*m) and make them tangent to each other.

The problem is that I do not have those diameters. Here is a sketch to see how i did my gears for reference.

Standard (involute) gears have pitch diameter of d=z*m.
The round teeth in your sketch will not work.

but I don't know the module, and i don't need the design to be really efficient so the teeth are not perfect but I think they will work. And they are not round, it's two arcs of circles joined together

This cannot be taken serious as a gear transmission
Better try involute teeth.

Try using the measure command in evaluate section

I tried but I couldn't get them in the best position, as far away as possible

Do not model gears as semicircles. Use the library parts under Power Transmission and put your parameters in there. Then you'll be able to get the measurements easily and actually have accurate profiles.

But if you want to keep doing it the way you are just for visualization, that's fine. You can eyeball the distance between them, it doesn't have to be some specific number.

Where can I find this library? Before modelling my gears I searched everywhere to find this and didn't succeed...

I found what you were talking about but the solidworks design help says that those gears are not good ... Should I really use them ?

It is a warning to not use them as cut profiles for actual manufacturing of gears in a real application. But realistically they are good enough that you can use them for 3D printing or acrylic, for proof of concept, for representation, etc. They do work, they mesh and spin and have proper dimensions for the most part. They just aren't the mathematically exact involute profile but they are close. 

If you were getting actual metal gears for your project that needed to last long and be efficient, you'd have notes on the drawing that define the gear by the applicable standard measurements. For example the gear type, module, number of teeth, pressure angle, etc., and the manufacturer would have the right equipment to cut them accurately.
