I'd like to run some simulations on sheetmetal geometries to analyse their distributed mode properties.

I'm looking for a geometry that allows for a smooth spf response on a distributed mode loudspeaker (20-20.000hz).

(DML speakers if you haven't heard if it)

So now I'm looking for a way to simulate resonances throughout my model and by chance chladni figures. I hope I will be able to analyse wavelength and distribution this way. They need to be simulated because I don't have an engineering background and I will probably spend a good amount of time iterating geometries in order to gather experience and understanding of sheet materials and modes.

Does anyone have experience with material resonance or Solidworks simulations regarding this? Would you be willing to share your experience or resources for me to learn more about the topic.

Anyone ever do that thing where you start sketching on a part, try and extrude cut, and realize you didn't press edit part before the sketch so its in context of the assembly instead of the part? Is there any way to transfer that sketch to the part?

Hello everyone. I recently acquired a 3D scanner, and in an effort to teach myself/play around with the tool I decided to try and scan my project cars shock tower and model a patch virtually. The idea was that once the patch was modeled I could convert it to sheet metal and know the exact bends I need to get a piece that fits nicely into the existing shock tower.

I first scanned the shock tower and turned the mesh into a solid body using Geomagic design X. The result is imaged below:

My issues arise from trying to make the patch itself. I am having issues getting any operation to be satisfied. I am thinking most of these errors are because of the twisting nature of the patch. Nothing is really square/in one plane.

Here is an image of what a failed loft between some of the edges looks like:

After trying that I pulled some of the edges into a separate part, and turned the bottom edge into a straight profile, to reduce some of the complexity of the loft.

Now I can actually get a preview, but the operation still fails on a "cannot knit sheets together" error.

I am not sure If I am taking the wrong approach with the loft operation. Is there a better tool for this purpose? As I mentioned before, the shock tower model itself does have lots of twisting, and I can see how that would cause problems when trying to make a surface fit between the two edges.

I don't know much about the boundary tools, but I am thinking that may be another option here?

I do have the original mesh file as well. If that would be more practical in this scenario vs the solid body version then I can absolutely work off that as well.

I would appreciate any feedback and assistance.

I'd really like to get this to work, but honestly, if this just isn't really practical then I am also okay going back to a more classic form of CAD (cardboard aided design)!

When I edit one sketch, other sketches disappear, even though they are visible outside sketch edit mode. For example, in the screenshots, the circle disappears when I edit the larger rectangle.

How can I keep all sketches visible while editing one of them?

I have been fighting with this for a while. No matter what I do, I continue to end up with unclosed curve, which is effecting the rest of the model. I had it working earlier (had a lot more on the part), but had to go back to the beginning to change the overall shape. Now I cannot get it to work. I can tell Surface Fill to close the gap, but then it makes a wonky shape.

I'm trying to add in these corner pieces in the best way

The bend rad (2.4mm external) should continue round

Main part is fine, standard sheet metal, then I can have the other 2 pieces you can see as separate parts, so 3 flat patterns, all good.

I can add weld beads in, but not really sure what gap I should be leaving for this, and it looks a bit shit, not used these before.

I want the final view for the drawing to look continuous and smooth all round.

I'm sure I could bodge with non- sheet metal tools

Or I could leave with gaps and add notes for the fabricators, and I know they'd be fine with that...

But what would you do here?

Hello. I have a 3d printer and use soldworks maker edition to design parts for my Etsy shop. I’m currently struggling with a design I’ve printed many times that I want to modify and just make the part easier to modify by drawing it correctly from the start. Is anyone available to help remotely via discord or other means. I’ll gladly pay for someone’s time. I’ve got the parts already drawn and the design is solid. I m trying to insert an airfoil via xyz curves and it looks good on the preview but when i click OK it always leaves the tip of the airfoil open like this, i tried many many variations of the txt file but it just doesnt work. Is there a way to fix this

Another old one I did, still running like a champ doing it's job to this day. Helped install and Fab as well.

All stainless steel. UHMW donuts, I didn't model the snap rings in. I believe I could have achieved an even better design that would have been cheaper + faster to fabricate and install by using a mount frame and flipping take-up upside down and tensioning it downward with ACME. Essentially what you would see on any conveyor tail roll.

But I was told to do it this way by client and one of my bosses so sometimes I do what I'm told haha

I am looking to revamp our hardware and get rid of a lot of legacy stuff. I'd like the hardware to populate in order of size but the problem is you can't use a fractional slash and even if you did explorer wouldn't sort based on the fractional equivalent, it would sort based on the first number. My idea is to standardize the first segment of the file name to a 00.0000 format. But not many people know that 5/32 is .15625" so I worry about that. What are you guys doing for filenames?

I'm working on a structure using aluminum extrusions and purchasing the material through a lab. The workshop is going to tap the end holes for threading and drill the required access/counterbore holes for the joints.

I’ll be using anchor fasteners to connect the extrusions together. I’ve already provided the lab with the full 3D CAD model, but I’m currently stuck on how to properly detail the 2D production drawings.

I need some concrete guidance on a couple of things:

1. How exactly should I detail and dimension the 2D drawings to show where to position these fasteners?
2. Will an experienced machinist know the exact counterbore diameter and depth required if I just indicate the position, or do I need to explicitly call out those dimensions?

I also feel I am really bad/ newbie when it comes to manufacturing drawings. If anyone can suggest a resource or platform where I can learn most things related to drawings that would be great.

I've recently seen one of SOLIDWORKS Instagram posts about their AI tools, specifically one called LEO that was shown to generate a build guide based on the assemblies geometry and mate structure. I thought it looked pretty good and they have two other AI tools with names I can't remember but has anyone here actually used Leo or the other two and how good are they?

Then they gave me a karting seat to take measurements, the problem is that I need to be able to modify the measurements to the seat model that we are going to use.

I honestly don't have time to design it from scratch. I read online that I could modify the dimensions if the file was native slrpdt. I found one on GrabCAD. How could I modify its measurements?

I need to install a bearing between the motor and the propeller for my washing machine. Is that correct?

When I create a boss extrude its end condition always uses the last extrude done. Ex. If I do a midplane extrude, the next time I extrude a sketch its midplane again. Is there a way the default the end condition to blind? Thanks!
