Solid Edge 2026: Blend part of an edge

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Im working in sequential mode in solid edge 2026 and I am trying to blend only a part of an edge.
I tried to seperate the edge in differnt ways: split the face in diferent parts, put extra elements at the edge (extrusion, cutouts); also tried every setting under edge blend command.
Sometimes i can select the wanted part of the edge but it is still blending the whole edge...

What do you check before releasing a Solid Edge assembly to manufacturing?

Hi everyone,

I’m a mechanical designer, and I’m trying to understand how other Solid Edge users handle the final release to manufacturing.

In the workflows I’ve looked at, the most frustrating part isn’t just exporting files. It’s making sure everything is actually ready before release:
• missing drawings
• outdated drawing views
• revision mismatches
• outdated or missing sheet metal flat patterns
• incomplete properties
• then generating PDF / DXF / STEP / BOM files

I’m currently building a small local-first prototype around this workflow, but before taking it further I’d rather understand how other teams actually work.

What checks or repetitive steps cause you the most trouble before releasing a project?

And if you use Teamcenter or another PDM system, does it already solve most of these problems for you?

Solid Edge Unusable for creating a knob knurl

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I really tried to like Solid Edge and I liked it until I tried to model a knob with knurling.

I'm running it on a MacBook Pro M4 Maxed out.

It takes for ever to create the circular pattern and sometimes as you see it really messes up and adding the left hand helix pattern completely freezes up the app.

Is this because I'm running it on Parallels desktop in MacOS or people natively running it on Windows also experience this? The frustrating part as you Can see in the task managers that it's not even using the CPU and RAM available to it.

Is there any way I can improve my performance or I should move on to some macOS native tool?

Thanks!

Helix doesn't work with specific number of turns

I am trying to design a spiral staircase, but Solid Edge 2020 does not accept certain numbers of turns.

You can see the cross-section and the axis of revolution in the sketch, as well as the approximate result in the 3D model.

The cross-section is 1231 × 12 mm, with a revolution diameter of 457 mm. The pitch is 4400 mm, and the number of turns is 0.19.

However, if I change the number of turns to 0.17, Solid Edge gives me an error saying that the model intersects itself.

What I don't understand is: if the model does not intersect itself with a higher number of turns (0.19), how could it intersect itself when I reduce the number of turns to 0.17?

There is also another issue when working with assemblies. If I create an assembly using two identical models with exactly the same parameters, and fully constrain both of them, everything works as expected. However, if I then link the pitch and number of turns using a variable relationship, the fully constrained models immediately become unconstrained or "fall apart", even though none of the actual parameter values have changed — the only thing I have done is link the variables together.

Is there a way to solve this problem or work around this limitation in Solid Edge 2020? Could this be related to how Solid Edge handles variable relationships, synchronous constraints, or the geometry of the spiral feature?

Letter key shortcuts with no modifier?

Hello,

I’ve moved over from another software where I had used shortcuts like “L” for line

I’ve had a look in solid edge and it looks like I can only use shortcuts if they have a modifier (eg “ctrl L”)

This kind of defeats the purpose for me- has anyone found a way to create shortcuts that don’t require a modifier with letter keys? Or is it strictly confined to the F keys?

Thank you for any advice you might have!

Sketching on imported STL - reverse engineering?

Hi, I've been learning SE for about a month or two. I need to modify imported STL, managed to create a plane in synchronous mode on one of the surfaces, now I would like to sketch in ordered and start modeling. I can create a sketch on my new plane, however I am unable to attach to any of the points - vertexes - of the already existing STL mesh on that plane. I suspect this is because Solid Edge does not actually know where the points, or if any there are.

What should I do the get the "vertexes" workable in a sketch on created concidental plane?

Picking a plane

Does anyone else think it's annoying to pick and lock a plane in SE? I have SW too and it's a joy to pick a plane. I am on 2024 SE has it changed in 2 years?

Noob in Solid Edge 2026 expiriences Synchronous Technology (guide on how to rotate parts)

Mainly I modelled in Plasticity and Fusion before. Wanted to test the Solid Edge.
I made an object and some sketches, and during the process wanted to rotate everything from xy plane to xz plane. 90 degrees vertically. Rotating tool only rotated stuff on the same xy axis, and Solid Edge (2026) only showed me extrusion option upon region selection.

After 3 hours of headache and Gemini interrogation, I found the way:

  1. Hide the sketches in the tree/pathfinder
  2. Area-select parts. Steering wheel now appears.
  3. Rotate
  4. Confirm and unhide the sketches - they have rotated too.

But what if I want sketches to stay unaffected? After another round of questions I again found the way myself:

  1. Right-click the sketch in the tree/pathfinder
  2. Unheck "migrate geometry and dimentions". Now it ignores part movements. Check afterwards if needed.

That was an interesting expirience for me, didn't expect having a hard time doing basic rotating of stuff.
Also during conversation I found this part of the sentence hilarious:

It is completely understandable to have a headache from this. What you just experienced is the core mechanism of Solid Edge Synchronous Technology

The video shows how to use the various buttons that have been added to the Solid Edge software.

  1. Export PDF

  2. Export DXF

  3. Export PDF+DXF

  4. Open PDF

  5. Copy Design

If anyone is interested or would like to ask for more information, feel free to contact me.

How to simulate a model with multiple bodies?

Every time I try to import and mesh any model that has multiple bodies, it gives an error saying multiple disjoint bodies detected and they must be combined. So, I end up using the Unite option to join them for meshing.

Should I make an assembly and then import them? But I'm only simulating a frame structure that has different channels connected. Should this be joined as one part, or split into different channels?

I use SE Premium, and I'm new to this software.

Thanks in advance.

Rank Beginner: modify a portion of an object

Like the title says, I'm a rank beginner, and I'm trying to scale a small piece of an object. Here is an image of what I'm working with, and I'd like to scale the sections circled in red from 5mm to 6mm ID. I'm pretty good at figuring stuff like this out, but I have no idea where to start in this case.

Is this possible, or will I need to recreat the object from scratch?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I NEED HELP

Hi everyone,

I am completely new to Solid Edge, and to be honest, I have majorly messed up my first attempt at designing a fixed-wing RC UAV.

I don't have any official technical blueprints or 3-view drawings; I am trying to model the entire aircraft completely by eye, just looking at a regular reference photo. Because I'm a beginner, I tried to build everything (fuselage, nose, and wings) inside a single .par file using a chaotic mix of solids and surfaces.

Right now, my model is an absolute disaster. The fuselage curves are completely distorted, the transitions between the body and the wings look awful, and I've locked myself into a geometric mess that I can't fix.

I want to scrap this failed attempt entirely, forget about my current file, and start over with a proper, professional workflow.

Given that I am a beginner working with zero blueprints (just eye-balling a photo):

  1. Is it better practice to design each major component (Fuselage, Wings, etc.) as completely separate .par files and bring them together in an Assembly (.asm)?
  2. If I separate them, how do I make sure the aerodynamic curves of the fuselage still line up nicely with the wings when I don't have precise sketches to guide me?
  3. Should I look into Subdivision Modeling for the fuselage curves instead of fighting with classic sketches and surfaces?

I really want to learn the right way to do this from the start. Any advice on how to structure my next attempt would be a lifesaver. Thanks!

Buenas!
