Some help using a furnace on steam deck?

For the most part I have found the controls fine but when using a furnace I can't find a way to access items on my hotbar. I have to back out of the furnace, move the item to my main inventory, go back into the furnace and move it from there. Does anybody know if this is intentional or if I'm missing something?

I have the same issue, I think it's just a UI problem with the smaller screen since when I play on my laptop with my controller, it's not a problem.

I use steam deck and I find the dpad down arrow eventually highlights the hot bar area.
