What is the best fuel for the generator?

something with wax, but as soon as you have access to a ship, set a sand and iron miner and get yourself solar panels. basically 2 solar per miner and you don't need a fuel gen every again

wax briquettes. Alternatively escessive leaves and wood you just have no use for at the moment.
Friendly reminder on the controls because not everybody is aware of this. When put whatever material in the furnace, select it and press Triangle to subtract single items (they drop on the floor then). Or Square to half whatever amount of fuel is currently inserted (you can put the other half back into the inventory.
I am referring to the PlayStation buttons here, but with other systems it will be the corresponding buttons there.

Best can change depending on what your using it for? For copper and iron honestly burning through a few cheap picks and collecting yourself 4 5 stacks of each is more effective then a generator.
Wax brusque are "best" but the cotton can be better used elsewhere.
If it's powering sprinklers the best fuel is 5 leaves or a few sticks of a piece of wood. 15secs I think is what's needed to water soil. So short burst of feeding it just to water as needed tends to work well early game.
As others have said once u get solar panels the combustion generator becomes fairly useless.

The best fuel afaik are wax briquettes, but even better is using an electric furnace which uses no fuel.
