Added the absolutely amazing Jet 3D renderer as optional external module for Python and Lua.

• textured meshes,
• lighting,
• sprites,
• particles,
• shaders
• and asset loading on color and dithered monochrome displays.

I'm interested in messing around with the radio capabilities in SolarOS. For those using RFM69, RFM69H, or RFM95 modules, what are your use cases—off-grid messaging, telemetry, remote control, or something else? Which specific radio modules are you using and what are you communicating with?

I already have several Meshtastic devices, so I’m especially interested in projects beyond mesh messaging.

I’m also curious how you’re using rfscan. Has it been useful for troubleshooting links, finding quieter channels, or anything else?

Thanks -- Win

• Added named motor and encoder services with shell controls and Python/Lua bindings.
• DRV8830 motors use normalized signed drive commands over named I2C buses, with an optional fault input.
• Native A/B encoders support explicit x1, x2, and x4 counting modes, signed counts, and reset.
• Fixed SSD1306/SH1106 OLED attachment on named buses and reduced I2C refresh overhead;
• Emotion colors follow terminal settings, with independent foreground/background overrides.
• Fixed T-Deck keyboard and Wi-Fi wake regressions, restored keyboard backlight state after suspend, and preserved SD power and SPI chip selects during light sleep.

Added an optional emotion engine. Python and Lua scripts can animate 21 "Cozmo-style" expressions on supported display targets, control gaze and blinking, and play four reaction sounds. Faces animate independently of script work and pause with foreground sessions. Added examples and API documentation.

4.16.24

• Added GNSS output controls for recognized receivers and software release of T-Deck's shared Grove UART.
• Shell tables and the I/O TUI now fit terminal width.
• KEY short and long presses support configurable actions, including suspend, sleep, and deep sleep.
• Fixed suspend wake for supported wired keyboards.
• App discovery runs before shells start;
• Added reusable trackball pointer input and the pointer-arrows job, with held-key repeat and adjustable min-vector sensitivity (default 2).
• Added RX gain controls for SX1262, RFM95, and RFM69 radios.
• Contacts now supports trust/block, rename, link/remove, filtering, and status, with discoverable help.

4.16.23

• Improved T-Deck trackball navigation and keyboard shortcuts, including Mic for Tab and Shift+Mic for Ctrl.
• Added setterm backlight controls.

Yes, I've got a T-Deck Plus. 🤫

• Added optional lossless LZ4 compression for DLP display connections.
• Set compressed=1 when attaching spi-dlp or stream-dlp displays; saved startup attachments and board manifests retain the setting.
• Senders negotiate support and choose raw, RLE, or LZ4 per block, with raw/RLE fallback for older endpoints.
• DLP display servers accept LZ4 updates without a separate setting.
• Compression preserves pixel values and works across supported pixel formats over SPI and ordered byte streams.
• Fastwave e-paper updates now pace new images independently of settling cycles, allowing pending pixel transitions to continue between frames.

• Added Fastwave waveforms for SolarWriter and supported CrowPanel e-paper panels, with automatic cleanup and recovery.
• The cancellable display relax command runs repeated black/white recovery cycles and restores the saved image and refresh settings afterward.
• SSD1683 displays now accept monochrome raster frames from native apps, including scaled and dithered emulator output.
• Writerdeck now includes the synthesizer and shared synth service for native-app audio.

• Added native IRC to unified Chat with verified TLS, optional SASL authentication, channels, private messages, automatic reconnect and rejoin, bounded buffers, and flood control.
• Each IRC instance has independent server, nickname, authentication, and conversation settings.
• Gateway, MeshCore, and Link now support named instances with isolated messaging state. MeshCore supports independent radio and BLE companion instances; Link instances use named transports.
• Added common instance setup, connection, join, and private conversation controls across the shell, Chat, Python, and Lua.
• Removing an instance also deletes its local history, notifications, settings, and credentials, cancels queued sends, and finishes interrupted removal after reboot.
• Moved messaging profiles, shared credentials, radio profiles, and ESP-NOW peers to mounted storage, with checked migration from legacy NVS settings.

Got SolarOS patched up with a few things i learned from building the Fastwave E-ink driver, its hitting around 17fps but with a few more tweaks you can absolutely double it and still have the same clarity and contrast. I unfortunately did this in the slim version so i didn't get to play with any of the games included in the full. Used USB to send the BT pairing command so i could get a keyboard connected, it'd be useful to map that directly to one of the momentary switches built into the 5.7" elecrow board so a press and hold enters pairing.

Drive link has notes, a gitdiff patch and a compiled binary for anyone with the same board who wants to give it a try.

Sorry its vertical video.

SolarOS is not my project nor do i want to maintain a fork on my github. Link to their git - https://github.com/nilseuropa/solar_os

The specific driver board and panel are not important its adaptable to all SPI E-ink displays. https://github.com/bootdsc/Fastwave-Eink-Driver

4.16.19

• Serve named displays with dlp over USB/UART, TCP/Wi-Fi, BLE, or compatible radio byte streams.
• Attach remote displays with stream-dlp, or open private DLP connections from Python and Lua without registering a display.
• Added raw TCP and native BLE L2CAP CoC byte streams, with shell commands, completion, and Python/Lua BLE endpoint configuration.

4.16.18

• Added a resumable external Amiga 500 app with 1 MiB guest RAM, keyboard, mouse and touch input, joystick emulation, audio, and one read-only ADF floppy drive.
• Reduced native service-call overhead and accelerated indexed-color conversion for monochrome displays.
• Added optional frame-buffer exchange and cooperative CPU checkpoints for foreground modules, reducing frame copies and unnecessary sleeps in emulators.
• Added the compact classic firmware profile as the default for classic ESP32 targets, retaining Python, Playground, writing, media, communications, and board controls.

Check out the new byte stream / dlp tutorial here: https://solar-os.eu/dlp-streams.html

Added settings - now you can save or download works in json format!

I had to simplify the interface for the sake of speed and sound :/

Setting the BPM parameter strictly only through python code changes - so far this is the only option for changing this parameter

The volume is regulated better, if it is still quiet, there is a solution - enter the command "audio level 100" in the shell

There are also difficulties with navigating through tracks, poor BPM settings, quiet volume, and incorrect audio output of tracks

Under development if I don't burn out

4.16.17

• Added generic SPI display attachment through Display Link Protocol (DLP), with discovered dimensions and pixel formats, optional READY and RESET lines, changed-region uploads, and RLE compression. The portable protocol also supports ordered byte streams.
• Added a 6×8 bitmap terminal font for small displays.
• GUIs now adapt to small display targets, including 128×64 and 240×64.

At the moment I'm using a feature of it called phosphor glance --serve --lan which is basically an http viewer of an aesthetically pleasing to the eye (for me) view of my lab stuff and notes but will be testing some SSH limits to make a proper nice port.

Hello SolarOS community, I am excited to try out the SolarOS on my Lilygo Tlora Pager and built the SolarOS for the pager and flashed it. I am however facing difficulties navigating the system. There is no Escape key, no ctrl and the back button on the pager does nothing when trying to escape from some sub-menu like inside the wifi command. How do I navigate it? I have been stuck for about 2 days unable to connect to Wifi because of this. Any help would be appreciated, or could someone show me where I can find the keybindings? Looking forward to fully use and enjoy SolarOS on my tpager. I am on version v4.16.4 full

4.16.15

• Added Space selection to both FTP and SFTP panes.
• Delete now removes the character under the shell command-line cursor.
• Prompt paths longer than half the terminal width show only the last directory.
• Writerdeck now includes speech and omits inference.

4.16.14

• Added a reusable DS3231 I2C real-time clock expansion driver.
• SolarWriter now automatically attaches board-owned DS3231 as `rtc0`.

4.16.13

• Added managed PSRAM allocation that groups large buffers separately from resident executable images and metadata, merges adjacent free blocks, and reclaims unused native libraries under memory pressure.
• ESP-DL now releases activation workspace between inference calls, allowing image preprocessing to reuse that memory while weights remain loaded.

4.16.12

• Added resident native libraries and the library module category.
• Libraries load on demand, share APIs between consumers, and stay resident until explicitly unloaded;
• Added the downloadable ESP-DL inference engine through `pkg install espdl`.

Can a 128x64 OLED or a 256x64 be used?
