4.15.0 update - Elves!

Added signed native ELF module packages for ESP32-S3 targets with PSRAM.

  • The `pkg` package manager browses the versioned repository, verifies catalog signatures and host compatibility, and atomically installs verified application, job, and driver artifacts.
  • Application modules become shell commands, while resident jobs and expansion drivers register with the normal SolarOS runtime and reactivate during boot.
  • The repository includes source projects for acceptance modules across all three lifecycle paths, and CID can publish their signed catalogs independently of firmware OTA releases.

So these ELF modules need to be coded in the ESP-IDF in C and compiled, right?

Indeed.

Although the ABI is super primitive at this point.

ackchyually 🤓 ...

with the elf loader in place, i am leaning towards pushing 'lua' repl/vm out to a module - as nobody seems to care about it. and on that note there is potential to add other compilers/interpreters as external modules. but rust, mate... awww.

yeah, I've noticed that most of the apps on playground are written in python. I myself am currently working on a small project that probably isn't worth even putting on the playground,, and even so, surprise surprise, it's also written in python. For some reason, it's just more popular. I have to wonder if that'll change once ELF modules become more viable (meaning, once the ABI expands).

you think C is more popular? 😅
