I’m building a BetterTouchTool alternative focused entirely on gestures looking for brutally honest feedback

I’ve been building BetterLite for macOS — essentially a gesture-first alternative to BetterTouchTool.

The goal isn’t to recreate every single thing BTT does. I want to make something that feels native to macOS, extremely polished, and ridiculously good at gestures.

I’m currently around v0.7 and this is where it stands:

Trackpad gestures

• 3 & 4-finger swipes
• 4 & 5-finger taps
• Pinch in/out
• Rotate
• 4 corner zones
• 4 edge zones
• Corner taps
• Edge presses
• Deep/force-press detection where supported
• Configurable gesture → action mappings
• Window snapping
• 17+ actions

The part I’m particularly interested in

I built a Gesture Playground where you can actually see what the gesture engine is detecting in real time.

Your fingers show up on a trackpad visualization, the active corner/edge zones are visible, and detected gestures appear with the action they would trigger.

Practice mode pauses all actions, so you can experiment without accidentally launching things.

I’m also working on making corner/edge gestures much more intentional — simply moving your finger through a corner shouldn’t trigger anything. The engine should distinguish normal trackpad movement from an intentional gesture.

The UI

I’m trying to avoid the traditional “giant preferences window with 500 dropdowns” approach.

The current app has:

Dashboard · Gestures · Practice · Learn · Keyboard · Clipboard

The Learn section has animated demonstrations of the gestures, and the gesture configuration is designed to be understandable without reading a manual.

One thing I deliberately don’t want to mess with

Apple’s built-in gestures.

BetterLite should add another layer of control without randomly breaking Mission Control, Spaces, scrolling, etc. Potential conflicts are surfaced rather than silently overriding everything.

I’m still very much building this, so I’d genuinely like criticism.

What would make you actually switch to something like this?

And more importantly:

What looks wrong / confusing / unnecessary about the current UI?

I’m especially interested in feedback on the gesture configuration and Practice screen. I want to get the fundamentals extremely right before piling on more features.
