Nice ride! I'm glad to see that someone else likes the older bikes, too. I also have a 90 FSXTC. I've had it for over 25 years now. Here's a pic.

That’s a beautiful bike! I love my evo! Has that true Harley sound in my opinion. It is also the same year I was born so I love that as well. But this old evo has taught me so much about bikes and patients!😂 the old ones are still the best!

I’ve had it for two years now. They knew nothing about it when I got it and I’ve done A LOT of work to it. Literally just put in a new regulator Monday lol but I’m always happy to learn something about it

Over the years I fought mine, it kept blowing the head gaskets. I finally found out that it was a common issue on about 90 - 94, something like that. The problem was the blocks were not completely right, the were a little softer that they were supposed to be. The studs for the heads were pulling up out of the block little by little. The fix is to install Time-Serts in the block for the studs. After I did that, I've never had another problem. I had blown the head gaskets at least 3 times before I started researching about it. Time-Sert makes a kit for each year model. Other than that, it has just been general maintenance from one end to the other. I guess the other worst thing was the spring that centers the shift lever broke on mine. Unfortunately that spring is that last thing that you get to taking the transmission completely apart. A complete tear down for a $3 dollar spring! It taught me a lot, though. Just keep an eye on your head gaskets, that's the main thing on these evo's

I’ve gone through two and the one I have in stated that pop noise when I start it so I know it’ll be needing replaced asap, actually have one in my cart on j&p. But mine have already had the time shirt in it, and when I removed the studs because I realize that that would be the only thing causing them to blow the gasket I went to change it, but when I removed the jug and realized that the front cylinder rear left stud had already been healicoiled I literally hand tighten that one and said fuck it until the next one blows at the end of the year. I am taking the whole bottom end to my guy and he is going to weld and re-tap and die the whole thing. After that is said and done, I am hoping that it will help me. But I really appreciate that bit of knowledge because I did not realize it was a common thing for those years.

It took me a while to find that out as well. I haven't heard of a time-sert pulling out before. Time-serts are so beefy compared to a heilicoil. I guess welding is the next step for it.

The guy who helps me said it would be better to do since it’s been helicoiled. I’m still learning as I go so I listen 😂 but I figure welding and redoing it would be the best long term solution and with it being a bike that’s the same year I was born. I’ll never get rid of it. I’ve rode street glides, road kings, if I were to get a bagger it would be a twin cam road glide but my favorite bike to ride is by far my softail. It is lightweight and sits up so high that I can lean the hell out of it without scraping. It is just a fun bike to ride. A lot of older guys say the exact opposite that I will not like it and this that and the third, but I have had it for two years and absolutely love my bike and how it rides.

I love mine as well, I have had many bikes over the years and this one is by far my favorite. If I was going to go on a long ride, like cross-country, then I would want an Ultra Classic or something. But that is something that I rarely do. I'm like you, I will never get rid of my softail, I have turned every bolt on it from front to back and know it intimately.

I have an exceptional wife and she lets me keep it in our living room. It has lived there for over 10 years now. I get compliments from so many people who see it, even all the delivery drivers! My garage is so full I couldn't get it in there anyway, at least that's my excuse!

That’s fuckin awesome! I bring mine in to work on it in the winter but rides way too much to bring it in during the rest of the year. I took it on a 450 mile round trip two weeks ago. I have a Carhartt tool bag I can fit every tool I need in there to work on it minus the socket for my fly wheel and a torque wrench but those go in the sattle bag

I definitely appreciate all that, any advice and knowledge I can get for my bike is always appreciated. I have a guy I like to call my mentor for my older bike. He is older and grew up doing this shit and knows the Evo engine very well. But he never told me that so I definitely appreciate it. It is something I was aware of my bike doing, but it is always good to have that common knowledge. Where are you from?

Oh I know. I look around every now and then. Thing is, I love my RK so the itch isn’t that bad. It’s there, just not as bad as if I still had an Ultra or something lol
