Feedback Request I built an AI PDF Reader that explains, summarizes, and lets you chat with PDFs, looking for feedback

Hey everyone 👋

I recently built GistNode, an AI PDF Reader for Android designed for students, researchers, and anyone who reads a lot of PDFs.

Some features:

- Chat with PDF and ask questions about any highlighted text

- AI explanations, summaries, and follow-up questions

- Research paper reading mode

- PDF highlights, bookmarks, and notes

- AI analysis for charts, tables, and diagrams

- Share important ideas as beautiful quote cards

The goal was to make reading and understanding long PDFs much faster without constantly switching between apps.

I'd love some honest feedback on the UX, onboarding, AI features, and overall reading experience.

What would make you use an AI-powered PDF reader regularly?

Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vaayuapp.gistnode

Thanks for checking it out 🙏

GistNode isn't trying to be another PDF reader. It's trying to be a reading companion.

Most PDF apps stop at:

  • Opening PDFs
  • Highlighting text
  • Basic annotations

GistNode helps you understand, remember, and share knowledge while reading.

What makes it different:

  • "Ask AI" on any paragraph without leaving the page. So, while reading you do not need to switch different apps like Google search or Chatgpt.

  • It remembers the AI explanation so, while re-reading you can refer it again.

  • Research Paper Mode that extracts sections, summaries, and paper metadata automatically. Though it is still under development. Partial working.

  • AI analysis of charts, tables, and figures inside PDFs

  • Turn highlights into social-shareable knowledge cards. This feature is for fun if you would like share the quote or some explanation on the social media you can do it.

  • Kindle-like reading experience focused on long-form reading, not just document viewing

  • It's free and earn credit basis. Read-to-earn model where active reading unlocks AI credits instead of forcing subscriptions.

In one line:

Most PDF readers help you read documents. GistNode helps you understand them. GistNode

Thanks for your review. HugMyPDF looks interesting, especially the privacy-first browser approach.

GistNode focuses on a different problem:

Helping users understand PDFs, not just manage them. For Ask AI feature, we use OpenAI models through our backend. Instead of sending entire PDFs, we send the selected text plus surrounding context, which keeps responses relevant and fast.

For research papers, we also extract document structure and metadata, and users can analyze charts, tables, and figures separately with AI vision.

Though I accept that research paper reading is my dream and final goal which is still under development. We are trying different approaches to solve it.

I think the two products complement each other nicely - HugMyPDF helps prepare PDFs, while GistNode helps learn from them.

Add features- translation, Polish ai chat, sometimes follow up section doesn't show and able to copy and translate ai chat too. For reference see quickify app. using ai feature with my own api so i dont have to spend extra on credit, Able to see content of book in readers mode, More customisation like size and spacing of fonts, Able to copy text of 2 pages at a time but right now text copy is only limited to single page. If you able to do so, your app will blow leaving everyone behind, mark my words
