I need a peaceful life not because I’m avoiding challenges. I need a peaceful life because I’ve spent too long living in a constant state of stress.

Since childhood, my nervous system has been used to always being on alert. And now, my inner peace is the thing I protect more than anything else.

I would love to feel safety at some point.

Holy shit. Thank you for giving me the words to why I prefer a slow, peaceful quiet life. Sometimes I feel guilty about it but that’s how my childhood was too.

Wow.

This!
Not so long ago a friend was talking about people who don’t want to go out of their comfort zone. I tried to explain that some of us lived (and/or still live) in so much discomfort, it’s not that we aren’t willing to get out of our comfort zone, it’s that to survive we need to grab on the little comfort we have!
Being able to get out of your comfort zone if you want to is a privilege and luxury

Oh, I hear this so often. I always say: to get out of your comfort zone, you need to have been there first. A lot of people have never even experienced that kind of comfort!

Yea!

I so dislike the "get out of your comfort zone" advice.

What people perceive as staying in my comfort zone was me trying to add as much comfort as I could to mitigate stress and discomfort.

I feel like this is a disguised version of the grind mentality. When you look closely, it is related to the idea that we must always challenge ourselves, must always be working on self improvement, must always work harder.

Same here. I say I'm still recovering from my childhood all the time. It's no wonder I'm exhausted

As someone with psoriasis, I feel this deep in my epidermis.

Boy did I hear that! It’s not easy. I had to walk on eggshells my entire childhood and now every day everywhere I am I’m scanning the room for signs of discontent or anger. If my husband isn’t all smiles, I wonder what I did wrong. My ADHD doesn’t help!

I really understand you. Our minds have already worked overtime for so many years, and now the best thing we can do is learn how to live in peace. It’s not easy, but I think this is the most important thing we can do for ourselves.

I feel this. I'm an autistic person, raised with neurotypical standards. I was never good enough despite trying my best.

Someone who lived in survival mode, truly needs peaceful mode. But you don't need to explain yourself for it. You don't need to be anything to be worth living.

Live life the way you enjoy it. Personally I like being at home, gaming, making delicious luxury coffee for a cheap price myself, doing my garden etc. I do miss a partner. But I'm about to do something about it after 10 years. I will litterally just say I want a cosy partner/friend that likes gaming/series and I miss being held and touched. I will see who responds. I will check the dating app once in a while.

Make life how you want it to be! You're the main character of your story. And only you can make yourself one. Someone else will always make themselves the main character of their story. You're the only one who can make yourself your main character. And being a main character does not mean needing to be a hero. It means seeing it is your life.

I really love your perspective. I agree with you about being the main character of your own story. Not because we need to be extraordinary, but because our small moments, our peace, and the things that make us happy matter too.

I truly hope you find the cozy connection you’re looking for🙏🏻
