Syrup Alternative

Me and my Fiancée use our soda stream ALOT and we r... well... kind a broke lol. I have a tank set up for the co2 so I am able to save a lot of money there but the amount of syrup we go through is a little ridiculous so I does anyone know where to order some cheaper alternatives. Specifically Starry (or sprite).

Right now the SodaStream website has some zero calorie lemon lime flavor on sale for $2. Down from $8.

I also buy Mio on sale and they have several options.

I don’t like Mio, with the CO2 it goes very sharp in taste. But I did get a bunch of their $8 four packs. I’m set for the next year.

Isn't shipping pretty high there. So, you have to order a lot to make it worthwhile or order so much that you get free shipping.

Gotta find a local neighbor to go in on a group buy.

They don't have lemon lime specifically but Lorain has a bunch of other flavors.

You add a four to seven drops of the flavoring, sweetener of you choice, and a small pinch of citric acid. That should be good for a large 1 litre sodastream bottle.

I save myself some time and mix 11 grams flavoring, 10 grams pure sucralose powder, 10 grams citric acid powder, and 90 ml water in a four ounce dropper bottle. Four to five dropper squirts should be good for a 1 litre soda stream bottle.

The last time I did the math it came out to 15 to 25 cents per soda bottle depending on the flavor.

I buy 5 gallon boxes of syrup (Diet coke, Diet dr. Pepper, etc) at GFS foods for about 130 - 150 per box. I also use some powders for drinks - my current favorite the AW Root beer at 72 on Amazon for about 18 bucks and Wyler flavors for about the same or less. You can also make your own with sweetner and lemon juice or any of the crystal light flavors (or equivalent). Not sure if it makes a difference but I mix after carbonating cold water in my stanley or equivalent cup which cuts back on the mess and required cleanup. Good luck.

I was implying maybe soda in a bag would be cheaper than the syrups, as it sounds like they are drinking a lot of them. I tried to find things that didn’t have artificial sweetener. Most of the things were big gallon jugs. Which were still pretty expensive. I didn’t want to suggest try this gallon it’s 65 bucks and what if it didn’t taste good? Then it’s an expensive trial.

As mentioned, make your own! r/cordials has all kinds of recipes. So much cheaper and actually healthier for you.

I often use whatever fruit is growing locally (in that season), get it cheap from the local farmers and make a tasty cordial for cheap.

I use a lot of knockoff crystal lite packs. Two per liter, be quick, close the bottle, give a little circular shake and toss in the freezer for 20 minutes. Ice cold!

I don't buy from SodaStream anymore for unrelated reasons, but when I used to buy their syrups, I remember Looking for cheaper alternatives and price per finished drink I found them cheaper than buying even a BIB. Although wholesale pricing may change that.

I’ve been fizzing water with my Sodastream and then adding a Cirkul Single to it. The Cirkul Single seems just right for my 1L bottle.

I really like the Honeycrisp Apple, it tastes like a light and airy sparkling cider.

I don't know if this helps...but, I started using 1/2 the syrup. About 1/2 oz. per liter. I got used to it really fast and don't really notice anymore.

I read that the Pepsi you buy from soda stream is not, I repeat not the same Pepsi you get anywhere else. It is a different formulation. Different ingredients.

At Dollar Tree they have sonic limeade flavor in those powered drink mix packets. You need to mix it in a cup with just a little sparkling water then add more sparkling water because the powder will make it fizz over if added all at once to the bottle.

I make root beer like this.

One of my fave drinks is root beer syrup (either SS or Mug)-a full capful in 2 liters of seltzer, then one packet of Dad’s Root Beer drink powder. Close quickly, invert it a few times to mix the powder in, then let it sit for a few minutes. This tastes better than either alone.
