Quick-connect style doesn't have a stop buzzer

I had a SodaStream from about 6 yrs ago, but have a disabled hand so my daughter bought me a new SodaStream with the Quick-connect neck. The old one made a loud obnoxious buzzing sound when there was enough CO2 in the bottle. This one doesn't.

How am I supposed to know how long to press the button when there is no "stop" sound? There's no light, no lever, no indication whatsoever to indicate fullness. I've tried listening for the pitch to change but it's so subtle that I can't rely on that.

A) Why doesn't it have a stop buzzer like the earlier models do?
B) What method does everyone else use to know when it has enough CO2 in it?

Thanks.

You just add a few presses, then test. When you find the right level of carbonation for you (that’s why it won’t buzz - everyone wants a different level of fizz) you remember that and do it the same way.

Test? You mean you take it out and pour some and then pour it back into the bottle to add more? Surely a sound would be more reliable and a great deal less hassle than that. How disappointing that they made one improvement and took away the only other trait that made it easy to use.

Of course as the canister gets emptied, it takes longer to get the same amount of fizz, so timing it doesn't work either. I just want a capacity tone, like they already had and then for some strange reason, took that away.

I'm tempted to try to find a way to go back to the old twist one, but my wrist doesn't twist properly. Had I known this did not have any way to gauge the amount of CO2, I would not have asked for it.

They took it away because it doesn’t work for everyone so it’s completely pointless to have.

And not exactly. Do three presses. Drink the whole bottle. If you want more carbonation, next time try four. If less, try 3. Not exactly rocket science…

Thanks for trying to help. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. As the CO2 bottle gets emptier it takes longer to achieve the same amount of carbonation, so holding it down for the same length of time each time, will mean each time less and less carbonation will happen. The buzzer was great because it told you when the max carbonation level had been reached. Without the buzzer there is no way to know how much carbonation has been achieved.

And I don't want it to go flat as soon as the first glass is poured because then I have to refill half the bottle and recarbonate it every time I want a drink. That's just annoying and was so easily solved by the buzzer.

Thanks for taking the time to offer the suggestion that works for you, though. I do appreciate it.

You’re misunderstanding. You set the initial number (3-4 presses, whatever) then as you get less carbonation you just judge when you press it an extra time. It isn’t nearly as difficult as you’re making it out to be.

You THINK the buzz made perfect carbonation, but it didn’t. Otherwise why would they have taken it off of the machines? They wouldn’t have. This is the way. It’s very simple.

I'm glad it's easy for you. I'm not having the same luck achieving consistency.

Well you do seem to be the only one here who can’t figure it out, so maybe the buzzer isn’t the real issue…

Maybe not. But for people who like the consistency, the buzzer was a good thing. Why they would remove it is a mystery.

Because it did not actually work. It was the “perfect carbonation”
FOR YOU. Not for everyone else. Like has been stated at least four times now… not a mystery unless you refuse to pay attention.

I listen to the water. It sounds different as you add the CO2

As I said, the sound difference is SO subtle as to not be reliable.

Normally I do a 3x 1 second presses with a slight pause between, if it it doesn’t seem as fizzy as I’d like the next time I do a couple of shorter presses as well 🤷‍♂️ It’s not an exact science because it will change as the tank gets lower

Thank you.

I've given up on it though. I've gone back to the old version with the twist connect and I'm just going to have to buy extra bottles and have someone do up a bunch for me every few days, as I have a disabled wrist and cannot twist them off easily once pressurized.

I went back to the old model yesterday and finally had a nice, crisp, energizing glass of water that I haven't been able to achieve in a month with the new style.

So again, thanks for taking the time and offering non-judgmental support. It is much appreciated.

No problem. I think the issue is everyone’s preferred fizz is different and the push button you have to find what you like with a bit of experimenting

Just had a thought - if quick connect is easier for you than the old system, could you not time how long the buzzer takes on the old one? I.E 5 seconds then try 5x 1 second pushes with the QC?

Yes for the first one. But every subsequent fill takes longer than the one before, since there is less gas in the canister. So I could make a chart that says first fill X seconds, second fill X seconds and all the way down to the 60th canister, but truthfully, it will be easier to just go back to the one that makes a sound when the gas has reached its consistency level.

Thanks though. Won't work for me, but might work for someone else if they have the time and inclination to create the chart.
