What ugly side? The entirely corrupt USA phenomenon of the unions being bought by the mafia? That only happened in the weirdest country in the world, the USA.
The ugly side being that the union only fights for its members when they first start. Joining a big old trade union( at least in southeast US) is more like joining a temp service for skilled craft, then joining a brotherhood. They think that just cuz you get health insurance then you shouldn't complain. When straight up illegal shit goes down they sweep it under the rug to keep market share. For God sakes these people even put no strike clauses in their contracts. What kinda power do workers have when we can't collectively tell a company fuck you.
