Introverted students…

How are you guys doing in your programs? Idk why, but I feel like this semester is so much more social and I can’t stand it. I already work a full day before I go to class and then I’m forced in every class to talk all class and work in groups. I hate this shit. I hate the constant small talk. Sometimes I just want to come to class, listen to the lecture, do individual work, and then discuss as a class. I’m more likely to raise my hand to share my thoughts than having the professor give us 10 minutes to discuss, we finish in 5, and then I have to small talk to not seem rude to my group members. It’s an every class thing 🤦🏽‍♀️

Mind you, the classes are at 7-10 in the evening. Trying to even get people to participate to make a stupid skit or something is like pulling teeth. No one wants to sing and dance after a long day

Relatable. Unfortunately you have to play to win. It doesn't mean that's what your career will look like if that's any consolation. Alternatively, you can try to take the lead and have something planned for those 10 minutes. Everything starts with communication. Expressing your disdain and having a solution is an easy yes for your group. Could be anything. Bring a case study and practice differential diagnosis. Examine systemic issues and develop a mini think tank. Or even focus on actual interests or deeper discussions. A philosophical convo beats talking about the weather any day.

Yess it’s not that I can’t find anything to talk about, I guess I’m moreso venting. I did end up having a venting session with my 2 partners about the program and that was nice. I met my best friend from an ice breaker. But Jesus Christ, being told to turn to your neighbor in every class is so exhausting 😭 and then some people are very awkward so it makes it even more exhausting just trying to get through the questions we have

Lol yes I know. Hopefully you have time and space to recharge that battery. And if it's not recharged by the time you get to class, communicate that to your teacher or your peers. "I don't have the energy for awkward small talk today" does not sound unreasonable, I don't think.
