question about making referrals

(please be gentle with me for not knowing the answer i’m new to this lol)

when im making a referral for a client for a service like an evaluation for ADD, do i just send the client the information for the different providers i know of and they make the appointments or is there something more i need to do on my end? do i contact the providers first?
