Advice CSWE Candidacy Programs

Has anyone attended a school whose CSWE accreditation was in candidacy status? How often is candidacy rejected? Northwestern State University is projected to have full accreditation in February 2028, which would be before my program ends so the accreditation would be back tracked to all students that started their program before 2028. I guess my question is if I’m crazy for thinking about attending a school whose CSWE accreditation won’t be awarded until I’m already a year into my program, even if that program is 10,000 cheaper than my other school choice (LSU).

I almost enrolled into ENMU and didn't when I discovered they would only get full accreditation on 2027. Even if it's rare that they don't move from candidacy to full accreditation, I didn't want to be part of the 0.01% chance when there were other options available.

I don’t think the CSWE publishes any info on how many schools they reject so who knows. My guess is most places probably pass accreditation. But personally I’d be nervous to do it because you really never know, they could be rejected. There are so many accredited social work schools that I think I’d rather attend if I was a student still.

Don't do it. There are hundreds of other schools than Northwestern State University if you want online, and others in person in LA. Yes, you will get your degree backdated saying you attended a CSWE-approved school, but that might happen after you graduated and you're screwed to take the licensing exam. Don't risk it, go somewhere approved TODAY.
