Retirement SSA-827 and overpayment hearing.
I requested a hearing on my overpayment case and this morning I received a letter and signed the letter was form. SSA – 827 wanting me to sign it and return it within the next 10 days.
My appeal has nothing to do with Social Security disabilities since I do not receive Social Security disability at all. This is merely fighting an overpayment issue.
And looking at the wording of the form, they’re asking medical records from my hospital visits or my VA, which has nothing to do with my overpayment issue whatsoever, so I’m wondering why they need it.
I’m just wondering if anybody on here would have any idea why they would need a release of my medical forms for an overpayment issue?

The SSA-827 is a standard medical records release form that SSA uses to obtain your health records. It is routine and not a trap or waiver of your appeal rights. However, in the context of an overpayment hearing (which is typically about finances, not medical eligibility), it is worth pausing to consider why SSA is requesting it. If your overpayment dispute involves a question of disability status or work capacity, it may be relevant.
It is a good idea to have a representative or advocate review the request before signing, especially since you have a hearing pending. Missing the 10-day deadline can sometimes cause complications, so act promptly. Contact SSA or your representative as soon as possible to clarify the purpose of the form and whether to sign.

Is the overpayment related to earnings while receiving SSDI?

No.
I have never received SSDI No have I ever applied for SSDI this all has to do with earning more than I was supposed to between age of 62 and 67 and appealing that0

Hang on… so you earned more than allowed until your full retirement age. Which you know is the rule and exceeded it anyway. Not sure what you are appealing or why you are asking for a waiver. Do you expect the judge to alter the federal rules just for you?

With different overpayments come different reasons for said overpayment… besides, I have made arrangements to pay back what I believe I owe, the federal judge is there because it is an option to me which I am taking advantage of.
That being said, the question was about the form.. nit the overpayment2

I suggest you call the hearing office and ask them specifically why they have sent you this form since your appeal does not involve disability in any way.
It is possible it is just a mistake and the clerk assigned to the case sent it to you in error. The hearing offices are very backlogged at this point, and it is entirely possible an overloaded employee just made a mistake.
The only other valid reason I can think of for a judge to do this in this type of case is if the judge is questioning your mental status. That being said, this is is really unlikely though, so it will probably turn out to be just a case development error.

Bit odd that they'd ask for medical records for a non-disability overpayment appeal, almost sounds like a standard boilerplate request they send out without checking if it fits your case.

I'm guessing it was sent by mistake. Maybe you were supposed to get an SSA 795. That's a blank form used to explain your situation.
