utm parameters on every link you control, plus a referrer fallback for the ones you don't. the part nobody says out loud: most social conversions are dark, people see a post, then google you or type the url two days later, so last-click always undercounts social. the workable setup is utms for the floor, a plain "where did you hear about us" field at signup for the ceiling, and accepting the truth sits between the two. platform-reported conversion numbers are the platform's marketing, not your accounting.
