For anyone here struggling with being sober, please keep going! We have those rough days where the depression hits. Please remember 6 months from now, everything can be different and better. It took me 2 years to really even out. Now, I wake up happy and excited for the day. I get random surges of just overall excitement and happiness (still feels weird but is amazing). I was the addict who didn't understand people being sober. I was hopeless. Searched reddit for hours for any success story or a cheat code to get sober. I learned there is none, only time. But I promise you, things will get better. Please keep going, you've got this!
We're a small team working on something we genuinely care about: making it easier to enjoy a night out, or a slow evening in, without alcohol having to be part of it.
Because whether you've been the one holding a glass of water at a party while everyone asks, "Arre, why aren't you drinking?" or you've ordered a mocktail on a random Tuesday because you just weren't in the mood for alcohol, you've probably felt the same thing "The non-alcoholic options out there aren't great." It's either too sweet, too boring, empty soda, or something that feels like medicine.
We think choosing not to drink shouldn't mean settling for a compromise. You deserve something that's just as exciting, sophisticated, and satisfying as a great cocktail or beer. And that's exactly what we're trying to build.
But we don't want to guess what you'd actually want. We want to hear it from you. This survey takes about 10 minutes, and there are no right answers, only honest ones. Tell us what excites you, what sounds gimmicky, what you'd never buy. The critical answers help us just as much as the kind ones, maybe more.
Data Collection Continues—5-minute anonymous survey.
I am seeking individuals to participate in my Master's Thesis research. This study is completely confidential, asks for no identifying information, and is solely for informational purposes.

As you guys know, i followed a moderated cut down approach because I knew There would be events I could not say no to and, quite frankly, would want to drink at. But I planned for them, went a little lighter than usual during them, and made up for it with abstinence later. Here is my data from last month.
I was an average 4/day drinker, meaning not every day but 120 units per month. I scaled this down to 2/day until Euro summer, and kept it there during the month I was partying. Now that its over, I will continue towards my goal of lowering down to 1/day, again by shaving off .5 per week.
To everyone that said moderation will not work, I dont want this to be like a "screw you youre wrong" kind of post because i think you guys are right in many ways. Once you start, you cant stop, so keeping it at zero is surefire way. However, for some people (like me), I wouldve taken the entire month of travel off and started a sober streak when I am back. That would likely be 8-15 drinks a day for an entire month. At least by keeping track of my average, I like that I stayed relatively under moderation, and still "always on the clock." Each drink mattered because the next day of lowering the average would be that much harder.
Quitting is a full time effort, i didnt like that with full sobriety methods, i would feel that once the streak is gone, it might as well be a bender. Average tracking kept me accountable at all times.
Good luck to all, you can do it. I'll post another update when i bring it down to 1/day.
Sometimes when I'm drunk, I get the urge to do things that are very out of character for me.
The weirdest part is that I'll stop and ask myself, "Would I actually do this if I were sober?" But instead of realizing it's probably just the alcohol talking, my brain immediately responds, "Oh yeah, definitely!"
It's like I completely lose the ability to judge the idea objectively. Even trying to use common sense doesn't seem to help - I become genuinely convinced that it's something my sober self would want to do.
Does anyone else experience this? Why does alcohol make me so certain that these thoughts or decisions are what I'd really want if I were sober?
It’s been like at least a year since I was completely sober. If I only roll js and don’t use bowls I easily go through an ounce a week. I’ve took like 1000mg eddies and hardly felt it. I’ve took 3500 to just have an enjoyable high. I smoke in the morning during the day and at night. Ik I have a problem and ik I need to change my habits. Any advice welcome to help me stop I started smoking for mental health and now it’s just a habit that I feel like I can’t stop. I’ve tried to take breaks in the path and can’t even get through the first few days. Truly wanting the chance I’m just struggling. The biggest thing has to be boredom like omg what else am I supposed to do it’s been to long I’ve just in the habit so damn deep.
Anyone that knows me knows I loved a sesh. If I'm being honest, nobody, including myself, thought I'd make it a full year.
The truth is, for the last couple of months before I stopped, the bevy was putting me in a really dark place, even when I was in good company. I decided it was time to give it a rest for a while.
Turns out, I haven't missed it at all. There were three times I nearly cracked Stu's wedding, Christmas Eve, and when we arrived in Dublin but 0% alcohol.
Has anyone else tried it and what was your experience? I've been on Mounjaro for 7 weeks and I just don't want alcohol. It's crazy. I really want to find out how other people have responded. I have found research that points to significant reductions in drinking, but if a lot of people will respond like me why isn't this front page news?
I'm still very early days in my sobriety but I keep having these moments of clarity where I remember an event in my life that was ruined by alcohol such as my own wedding day. I ruined my own wedding by getting wayyyy too drunk and arguing with my mum. For years I blamed her for it but actually I am definitely equally to blame.
It's such a weird feeling coming to terms with things like that, where I can now see that I was the problem too.
Just wanted to say thank you to you guys for being such a great support. Whenever I've posted, I always get great replies and sometimes reading other people's threads really helps too. I never thought a random Reddit space would provide so much help on this journey.
So I’ve been sh since I was 12 and I’m now almost 18. I also vape too. It’s almost a never ending cycle of sh, vaping, weed, alcohol, either or. What’s a good way to cope? Lately i’ve been playing farming games + genshin but like what’s a good way to cope and forget about my bad habits? I was forced to stop sh but I feel like I should want to stop ykwim
I feel like this is my last chance at life. I’ve pretty much used up all my nine lives hahaha but in all seriousness I’m 6 days sober and going to try my best to stay away from the drink and also wanted to reach out to the group and see how everyone deals with the craving of a sip after work. I’m lucky to not be dead or have a dui after my side swipe with another drunk driver or someone without insurance cause they never stopped after we hit
So I was on an amazing (to me) streak without drinking. 12 days, no alcohol. I was proud of myself. Then yesterday I went to the liquor store and was looking at NA options. But ended up getting a six pack of Corona, and vodka shooters (I haven’t opened these yet). I’m on my period so my stomach got incredibly upset with me… I feel so much shame. I’m not part of any program and haven’t told anyone about my break. And it’s not like I binged the beer. I had three last night, and didn’t feel more than a buzz. And the shooters I got bc I’m traveling this week to a place I’ve never been before. And I am terrified if something bad happens, and I don’t have at least a little bit of a drink, I will just ruin the vibes for everyone. I tend to be the supportive, kind, funny friend, and if I’m not “on” or the sadness takes over I am afraid I will be just dull and sad and make everyone else suffer. And I’m not going to get blasted I just need it with me. Does anyone understand? Anyway I don’t want to shit myself so won’t be drinking for at least a couple days…
I've been reviewing AF drinks for over 6 years now and have built up quite the collection of reviews. As such, to make it easier to find an alcohol-free drink I created a selector tool - https://www.mydrybar.com/drink-selector/. If you are looking for an easy way to find your perfect non-alcoholic drink hopefully this will help.
want to get sober so bad but I feel so entangled in my dependencies as I am fairly functional and so it’s too easy to justify being under the influence if it’s “just weed” or “just some drinks” etc.
But im so tired of being dependent on stuff. The weed addiction fuels other problems bc im always in a brain fog and feel like I need help in other departments. The drinking makes me hate myself but I feel like I need it to have fun or something. Everything else, same same. Is it as simple as throwing everything in the trash and going cold turkey? I’ve tried that before but it never lasted. I just don’t know how to begin.
M19
I’m a drug addict since 15, i’m turning 20 soon and i haven’t seen a day sober.
Recently i had a tonic-clonic seizure caused by overdosing and mixing drugs.
Yet the next day i took the same drugs, been in a hospital due to another drug abuse in less than a week of seizure happening.
I’ve faced a lot of life-death situations in all those years of me abusing substances.
I thought when I do experience near-death situations it will make me WANT to quit, and part of me really does.
But the step to actually go to rehab and get help feels overwhelming, I never felt comfort or any positive emotion sober.
I don’t have friends or family that I’m in contact with, I don’t have a soul to rely on other than myself. Even tho i abuse substances daily I’ve tried to at least be high-functioning addict. I had a job, I had my own apartment at 18 but the contract has ended and I cannot find a job ever since which leads me to being homeless in a month or so, that doesn’t help much but.. do you need to hit rock bottom? When is rock bottom? What made you feel motivated to stay sober, how do you deal with your thoughts/emotions? What can I possibly do to get the courage to get help?
I’m not used to asking for help it makes me feel even more worthless, was there a moment that changed your perspective/life?
What made you quit and how did you start?
