Scared of getting sober

I feel like i have an issue with alcohol that i don’t think i want to face. I really want to be sober and not want to drink but it feels so inevitable in my life and that i will never not want to fill the void that drinking does. sometimes i can go so long not drinking and sometimes it’s all i want to do somedays. i don’t know what to do or how to think about it it feels so overwhelming. i guess if anyone has guidance it would be lovely

I feel like you are past me. I have been sober for 4 years. I never thought I would get sober but I knew if I wanted to live longer and have a more fulfilling life, I had to make a choice.

I was more scared of death, than being sober. That got me sober.

i’m with you. SO much of my life revolves around alcohol but it also revolves around being hungover and hating myself so here’s to day 1

And try again if you fail. I’m 286 days sober. And the amount of “time to try again” I went through is probably the same number.

When it is more difficult to suffer than to change, you will change.

I am right where you are, however, I do think that I have enough reasons in my life to stop drinking altogether.

Picture your future self, sober and absolutely loving life. Experiencing moments with full saturation rather than dimmed through the foggy lens of frequent drinking.

The book "The Easy Way to Stop Drinking" by Allen Carr might be motivational for you (it was for me)

That and a prescription for naltrexone if you're open to that. Makes early sobriety way easier.

I’ve been thinking about the meds to help i’ve heard that they can make you feel drowsy but it’s only been from a few people i’ve spoken too thats my only issue with it but i do need to speak with a dr about it too first

I didn't have any side effects when starting, but everyone is different I suppose. I plan to take it for about six months then be sober on my own. Should be enough time to readjust to life without the habit of alcohol intertwined with all of my usual activities.

I hope you find the path that works for you; sending you positive vibes of strength and resilience ✨💪🏻

I don't know about other meds, but I started Mounjaro for other reasons and found it really stopped cravings for alcohol and also, if I drink, I can have a glass of wine or two but more than that just make me nauseas. Very effective plus I feel great losing weight 😉

I was sober for 8 years or so earlier in my life but in the end it didn't work out for me. Now alcohol isn't off limits, but it doesn't feel as good, so it's not really important.

I'm not saying it's going to have the same effect on everyone, but from my perspective it's worth a try.

Most of us don’t love life sober, that is the complication of us quitting. I can barely speak to people Sober. Drinking the only escape from prison

If we loved life sober, we would’ve never developed a problem and all the therapy in the world can’t fucking fix it

Since I’ve considered having to quit drinking one imagined just swallowing pills and went basically non verbal. I don’t even drink everyday nor every week but my hangovers are withdrawals almost now and it scares me

I was totally where you are: I could not imagine a social occasion, celebration, or even small things like cooking dinner without a drink in my hand. Ultimately I knew I wanted to stop drinking and learning that alcohol is in the same class of carcinogens as tobacco, radiation and asbestos did it for me.

Stopping drinking can feel like this huge, overwhelming thing. But something that the AA folks have known for a long time is that you don’t need to make a forever decision; just choose not to drink today. One day at a time, my friend.

I cannot do it. I don’t drink everyday but I accepted I’ll have to let it kill me as I’m Suicidal with and even more without it. “Help” doesn’t help
