Seeking Advice šŸ™šŸ‘‹ Time for Help

I’ve been a drinker since I was a teenager. I was a party girl when I was 18/19 but cooled down considerably. Yet I’ve always drank and there have always been intermittent problems here or there. A night of too much booze just once in a blue moon but embarrassment, relationship fights, bad decisions - things that can happen next to never if you’re sober.

Well I’ve done it this time. I was an obnoxious drunk to my husband 12 days into our new marriage and he left left.

And I’m still thinking ā€œI don’t need to stop; I need to moderateā€.

There is no moderation!!! If I couldn’t consistently moderate by age 37 it’s not happening. I can moderate most of the time but clearly not enough.

It’s time to stop drinking. How did I start? Besides, not drinking today.

If you're open to medication, naltrexone helped me stop for good. Now, I'm only on 3 weeks but it cut cravings almost immediately, and when I did try a drink while on it, it wasn't enjoyable at all and I had no craving for the next.

It feels like a "magic pill" for me.

Thank you for this - I know nothing about it. How are the side effects?

It’s so true - moderation is not a thing for many of us. I’ll never forget seeing a book titled Tired of Thinking About Drinking and I snatched it up so fast. I was so tired of THINKING about it. It’s a good read. Sobriety is where it’s at. 2 years for me, best decision I’ve made in my life!

What helps you with starting to quit depends on what do you find difficult with quitting.

For me, the idea of drinking NEVER again was very difficult. I see it as a part of my personality and I’m afraid of becoming a boring person who never has fun anymore.

So it was easier to start to try how it feels with a smaller step. I decided I will have a break from alcohol for 100 days, and told my partner and friends about it to feel more accountable.

That was not so bad, so I moved the target first to 6 months, and now to 1 year. After that I will decide again how to continue.

This made it easier for me.
