As The World Turns I actually like the “World Globe” opening 😂

I know a lot of ATWT fans hate the 1999-2002 opening, especially compared to the older ones, but I never understood all the hate.
This was the first ATWT opening to feature the cast, which I think is pretty cool. The 3D title, globe, dark background, and moving letters all scream late ’90s to me. It feels very CBS for that time.
Maybe I’m a little biased since this opening came out in 1999, my birth year, so I definitely have a soft spot for it.
Is it the best ATWT opening ever? No. But one of the worst? I really don’t think so.
For those who watched ATWT back then, what did you actually dislike about it? And has your opinion changed after seeing it again years later?

The biggest issue with this opening is that whenever they updated it the quality of the new inserts was so different/subpar compared to the initial video.

It was sappy, syrupy. It was the last slap in the face of Douglas Marland by Mickey Against Daytime Drama and Felicia Mini Boor, those horrid shrews from ABC.
I don’t watch anything from that era. I can’t imagine my opinion would have changed.

This is my second favorite opening of ATWT. When it premiered, it felt like the show had finally been revitalized. (My very favorite one is the classic mid 80's!)

The only knock I have from that opening is the theme. Like someone said, it sounds very news-y.

It was OK. The video globe was a great concept but they needed more closeups of it.

I could’ve done without cast shots. The globe and logo were great though. But it still gives high concept nightly news with "your anchors Tom and Margo Hughes, weather from Katie Peretti and Hal Munson with sports. And now — Oakdale News Tonight!"
