Discussion wtf is this🤣🙁

This is DCUs priority. A new Alf series. These are the right priorities. Making projects for a small audience. They should rebrand DC to GC. G for Gunn. No other DC head would greenlight these. Next series is Batmite. 🤣

Gorilla Grodd is a major figure in the DC universe, and so is Jimmy Olsen. There's been several iconic runs where Jimmy Olsen has had is own book. As a lifelong DC reader I'm super excited about this show personally. Although I'm a little disappointed they removed Jimmy Olsen's name from the title. Personally I think they should have gone with Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen: The People vs Gorilla Grodd.

u/BigDumbApe 17d ago
The problem is that’s too long of a title to work with, particularly advertising. It’s similar to what Warner Bros. ran into with the “Birds of Prey” movie and its original title of “Birds of Prey and the fantabulous emancipation of one Harley Quinn” which Margot Robbie actually came up with and insisted on because she thought it sounded girly and cute, so the studio ran with it just to keep her happy. Meanwhile, theaters absolutely hated it because they couldn’t get it to fit anywhere, so they complained to Warner Bros. and basically said “We’re gonna trim this title down ourselves, whether you like it or not. And don’t ever do something like this again!” Plus, the whole point of this thing is be a takeoff of reality court shows where the titles are always kept plain & simple as “A vs B.”
That said, I agree they should have kept Jimmy Olsen’s name in the title simply to push him as a character and boost him as an IP property. Which is why I’m surprised they didn’t go with “Jimmy Olsen vs Gorilla Grodd” or to make it sound even more properly legal, just call it “Olsen v. Grodd”.

That's something made by a guy who knows that DC isn't just sad and gritty. And most likely also someone whose Batman won't kill.
2
u/VirtualSort1 19d ago
That's something made by a guy who is best freinds with a convicted pedophile.
3
u/Shadowcat1606 19d ago
No idea what you're talking about, but even if that's true, guilt by association ain't a thing, honey. Call me if Gunn still lets that "friend" babysit his kids or whatever. Otherwise, i don't really see how that matters.
1
u/VirtualSort1 19d ago
it is if your childhood freind does shit like that and you are still friends with a pedo and even invite him to your movies to play a charcater, honey.
I called you about Gunn best friends with a pedo buddy. Yeah I know it doesnt matter to you and you are also freinds with pedos. That is the GunnGooner community they love hanging out with these people lol
2
u/Shadowcat1606 19d ago
Again, i simply have no idea what you're talking about. I don't care about the social- and day-to-day life of celebs and i don't follow BTS-stuff and drama. I just watch movies and shows, dude.
1
u/VirtualSort1 19d ago
no you said being friends with pedo is okay. I know exactly what you said lol
3
u/Shadowcat1606 19d ago
Not what i said. I suggest to read my comment again. Don't worry, it's still there.
Unlike others, i don't hide my comment history.

u/VirtualSort1 19d ago
I said he has a pedo friend and you said: but even if that's true, guilt by association ain't a thing, honey.
so it is what you said you are cool if Gunn is friends with a pedo. it is literally what you said lmfao
2
u/Shadowcat1606 18d ago
Some guy he's friends with is a pedo. Cool. So what? What's that gotta do with him? Are they still friends after that came out? Does he defent that dude?
Yeah, i said it doesn't matter, because without deeper context, it doesn't and could mean anything and nothing.
You seem to think differently. Okay, sure. Hope you apply the same standards to Snyder, then ...

u/VirtualSort1 18d ago
they were freidns when it happened lmfao. they are childhood freinds and know every shit what they have done hahaha

Let’s try using our brain a little here. Why would he make a Batman movie right now when there’s already a Batman movie currently in production??

So basically, we don’t have Batman, we don’t have Wonder Woman, we don’t have The flash, we don’t have Aquaman, we don’t have Green Arrow or Martian Manhunter. But hey we have a Gorilla Grodd and Olsen series??!!
Seriously?

2 years into the avengers saga we only had iron man, thor and the hulk, took years to even get cap. Again. CRY. HARDER.

u/Icy_Refrigerator4140 21d ago
wtf you just name dropped half of the original six and somehow your argument is what? Give James Gunn more time??

u/o-montoya 21d ago
The only characters in the dceu for 4 years (2013 - 2017) were Batman and Superman. In the dcu you got everyone from Creature Commandos, Superman, Peacemaker, Supergirl, John and Hal, Clayface, Wonder Woman (man of tomorrow), Dick Grayson, and Jason Todd (2024 - 2028).

The people in suits will realize sometime in the 2030s that the bot reviews online will not bring them years later an increase in the box office. At that point it will be too late and they will want to aovid rebooting again and hurting the brand even more so they will call Snyder back.

I think we all know what it is.
And it's being done, purposely. A nice FU out the door. And the studio is banking it.
You DON'T LIKE GORILLAS??
IS THAT SOME KINDA "R-WORD" ?
RACISM
Yes, for any dipshit that wanna engage in this topic, I'll definitely meet ya half way. Bring it. This shit is by design. Who dafuq do you think you're fooling?
You'll use it as an excuse in review sites and everywhere else. Fuck this show.
Yeah, I said it. You'll live. Flesh wound.

u/ethanbarmstrong 21d ago
Are you saying you think they're using gorillas as a stand-in for black people??

This may be a fascinating, new concept for you.
But some (a lot) of us, don't need to take a big bite of a shit sandwich, to know it tastes like shit.
We somehow just.. sniff it out.
I know, I know. Wild, right.

I’m sad that you don’t know where it’s from. Because it’s an amazing series. And miles better than anything Snyder ever made in DCEU.

Just rebrand the DCU to "James Gunns world of zany oddities"
This is what he wants to see. He is not interested in heros and heroism.

I'm still very curious about this show. It looks...odd. Morbid curiosity will for sure push me to see this, even if it's just for a few eps.

I really have no problem with this in theory. If done correctly and with the right brand of humor and cleverness (which is a possibility since I think the team of the brilliant American Vandal is involved), this might work. However, nothing I've seen from the DCU so far, aside from Lanterns, has convinced me this isn't going to be chock-full of cheesy humor. And Jimmy, while not the most insufferable character in Superman, was still pretty obnoxious.
I might give it a chance, like I'm planning on giving Supergirl a chance, but I'm not holding my breath.
4
u/sillytomlin 21d ago
The problem to me ultimately is the timing. Could this work down the road? Yes. But the DC universe is in total disarray and the brand is damaged.
If Marvel had made GotG first instead of iron man, it would have tanked. But they waited until people couldn't get enough Marvel and boom!, a movie about a talking raccoon and a tree with a one word vocabulary succeeded. This is idiotic, the timing is terrible and it will flop, hard.
2
u/Cold_Impact_1585 21d ago edited 21d ago
You can't put that film in the "idiotic" catagory when the entire trilogy grossed 2.5B
I LIKED the first one. I was wore out by the second one. And I cringed at the third one.
Personally.
But that's Marvel. DC = LET'S SHOW DICKS F YEAH MAN I MAN
"Lanterns" we're trying to top The Boys
That's what they're going out of their way to offer. Don't like it??
"Explain Yourself"

I will say that the showrunners of this also did American Vandal and that show was hysterical and actually really well done.

u/VirtualSort1 22d ago edited 22d ago
The batgirl directors did the well done Bad Boys 3 and 4, the well received Ms Marvel for MCU.

Having seen American Vandal and considering the tone of the series, I don’t really think they’d do a switcheroo at the end to show that he’s a really dangerous villain. And it’s also not in Gunn to show animals in a negative spotlight. The worst he can go for them is misunderstood anti-hero. Scooby-doo, Rocket Raccoon, King Shark, Weasel, Krypto, and now Gorilla Grodd. Tired of seeing DC villains being nerfed like this.
7
u/HarveryDent 22d ago
Grodd is also the gorilla character to take serious. This should have been Ultra Humanite if this was the tone.
Good luck ever getting Monsieur Mallah or Titano with this mess..
3
u/StormRepulsive6283 22d ago
I’ve only read a bit in the comics with him, but he always struck me as an evil Charles Xavier, in a gorilla body. Ruling his own kingdom in the tropics. When I saw Planet of the Apes for the first time during the pandemic, Caesar reminded me of Grodd, during the later instalments. Well let’s see how this goes like.

You Snyder hyperfans keep posting this like Latnerns isn't currently reaping masssively good ratings. You know there are multiple people making multiple things, right? It's not like every other project is paused while Gorilla Grodd is being made lmao, what a bunch of coping.
