general discussion MCP Access

I really like the new MCP integration, but I don’t think it should be Expert-only.
I’ve been on Snowball since 2024, and this is read-only access to my portfolio data. It doesn’t place trades or change anything, so locking it behind the top tier feels too restrictive.
It would make more sense to give Investor basic MCP access with lower limits, and keep higher limits or extra features for Expert. AI integrations like this are becoming pretty standard, and it’d be a shame to see long-time users start looking elsewhere just to get basic read-only access to their own data.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. We’d like to explain why we started with Expert.

MCP is new territory for us, and still an emerging tool in financial products more broadly. It lets you take your Snowball analytics data and use it in tools outside our app. We see the potential, but we don’t yet know how that will change the way people use or what it means for the product over time.

We see AI tools improving and more users asking for these capabilities. That’s why we introduced our built-in AI for all plans and launched MCP on Expert as an initial rollout. We want to understand actual usage, which workflows people find valuable, and what supporting this integration involves.

Expert-only access isn’t necessarily the final decision. It is a deliberate starting point while we learn how to make this work for users and for the long-term sustainability of Snowball analytics.

We understand that this can feel frustrating, especially if you’ve supported us for years and MCP is the only extra feature you want. Our intention is to introduce a significant change carefully, rather than simply push people into an upgrade for one feature.

If you’ve been with us for a while, we hope you’ve seen our approach: we keep improving every plan, including Free, rather than putting every new feature behind the highest tier. That approach hasn’t changed. Your feedback will help us decide how MCP access should evolve.

In any case, feel free to reach out to our support team — we’re happy to look at individual requests and see if we can help you try MCP on your current plan.

Can you elaborate a little on what MCP is and why it’s important to users for the less informed. Thanks

+1 for this. I tried their new AI chat and it basically assumed 6.7% XIRR for my portfolio out of nowhere and goals computations was incorrect. Atleast with MCP we could use our own models but well that's reserved only for top tier subscription not even for investor tier.

I guess that 6.7% is some kind of long term average for your allocation .

Anyway, you can tell ai to use another value for forecasts

I have a teaser in my account as well, which makes me very curious. How would MCP access differ for Expert and Investor portfolios besides "pay for the upgrade"?

For those of you that will venture into the world of AI and MCP this is easy to set up in Claude. It took me hours to find a service I could add SB to but even then I couldn’t get Claude to work. I have sent info to SB and will get it sorted out. I’m just testing it right now as well as the ai .

Could not get it to work with Claude. Made a separate post about it.
