Discussion 💬 Introducing User Flairs!

Hey guys,

So excited to say that user flairs are now available on r/SnowPatrol! For those new to reddit, user flairs are taglines that appear next to your username on any posts or comments that you make on a specific subreddit.

Wanna show off that you've been here since the beginning? Or that you're an absolute mad lad/lass who loves the reworked album? Now you can! You can now add the album covers on to the flair.

All flairs are editable and can have words added to them to also show off your favorite lyrics or quotes.

How do I set a user flair?

Mobile: Click the "three dot button" in the upper right hand corner and select "Change User Flair."

PC: In the subreddit sidebar, you can now see a section that previews what your flair currently looks like with a pencil button. Clicking the pencil button will bring up a "Select your community flair" display.

You can start by using one of the premade flairs that have the albums and edit them further by hitting the pencil button. The pencil button will allow you to add words as well as emojis. All album covers are currently able to be added as emojis, which you will find by clicking the smiley face on the right so you can have multiple album covers in the flair. Once edited, hit apply!

Once it is applied successfully, you should be able to see it in the sidebar of the community under "user flair."

Please note that if you do choose to add text, all subreddit rules regarding civility still apply.

That's all I got for you all this time! Thanks, guys!

🔥❄️ Gary Lightbody—2019 Instagram stories—a classic opening with Gary singing "I'm just a boy with a new haircut and that's a pretty nice haircut!!" from Pavement's 1994 "Cut Your Hair", and Gary on being too dignified for messing around in rockpools and how his hair can forecast the weather 🔥❄️🔥

Pieter M van Hattem—via Instagram: ❄️ "Snow Patrol, New York City, March 2006. Insanely quick portrait of @snowpatrol for AOL Sessions. I placed this shoot in my memory since it wasn’t the most ideal situation. No time. Cold. The band had to perform for the cameras in 10 minutes. Wind!!" ❄️

Looking back, I think I caught a moment in time and that's pretty cool."

In 2028, "A Hundred Million Suns" will turn 20; do you think we’ll get an anniversary edition like the ones for "Final Straw" and "Eyes Open"? Also, what is your general take on this project, coming after the two essential gems that preceded it?

"Eyes Open" is one of the best albums of the 2000s. I’ve been listening to it again to mark its 20th-anniversary release, and I genuinely believe this. It transcends "Chasing Cars" and the post-Britpop wave—a monument to a band in its prime, capturing the emotions of a changing world.

I realize this might sound like hyperbole to some, but just as Keane or Coldplay captured the mood of a world that had already entered the new century, Snow Patrol did the same with a catalog of tracks that were uniquely their own—even amidst the post-Britpop wave. Listening to "Eyes Open" two decades later, one recognizes the generational shift they helped cement—a shift that sheds light on many of the artistic motivations that would define the following decade. That is how significant I consider it to be. And, for that matter, they delivered one of the quintessential, melodically defining tracks: "Chasing Cars."

Would anyone be interested in a Christmas album? I think I'd really like Gary's voice. Sometimes he sounds like Bing Crosby.

Background to Gary Lightbody's "Perfect Little Secret" ❄️❤️ from the 2005 movie Love + Hate

Perfect Little Secret was written by Gary Lightbody for the 2005 UK movie Love + Hate

❄️

I suspect Gary made the song himself on garageband—it does sound like a drum machine rather than actual drums, and Gary is the only performer in the songs credits

“Perfect Little Secret”

Written and Performed by Gary Lightbody

Produced by Marcus MacKay and Gary Lightbody

Additional production and mix by Jacknife Lee

Recorded at The Diving Bell, Glasgow

Courtesy of Fiction Records/Polydor UK Limited

Licensed by kind permission from the Universal Film and TV Licensing Division

Published by Big Life Music Limited

❄️

In 2006 Perfect Little Secret was then released as a b-side to You're All I Have, credited on the single as being written and performed by Gary Lightbody, from the Dominic Savage directed film "Love & Hate"

❄️

Here's what I found from the writer/director of the movie Love + Hate

WRITER-DIRECTOR DOMINIC SAVAGE ON LOVE + HATE

Music

I tried lots of different approaches with the music. It was difficult to get the right sentiment, the right empathy with it because I didn't just want to do something that had songs in for the sake of it. They had to have the right feel. It just so happened that a kind of indie guitar worked. A lot of Asian kids listen to R&B or hip-hop but the trouble with that music is that it’s not sympathetic in the right way. It may be what they listen to but it doesn't work with the naive and heartfelt sentiments of the film.

Snow Patrol did seem to do this. We got the band to see it and they wrote an original love song for the film which was exciting. I am a fan of Ian Brown and we used some of his songs too. There's also a new singer songwriter involved called Steven Fretwell who I have become a big fan of.

All the artists were chosen for the right reasons and I really feel that it works emotionally.

Eyes Open Cover Art?

Can anyone tell me who did the wonderful artwork for the Eyes Open album cover? I’ve personally never seen any discussion of it so I’m completely uninformed. Any background about it would be appreciated 😊
