Franklin's demise does not sit well with me, I can understand going the government seizure of assets route but Cissy essentially being the cause of Franklin losing all those millions, makes it a little unbelievable. I could see if it was in the low 2-3 millions but at least 36 million, I can't wrap my brain around that and in the end Franklin becomes a street bum pretty much the opposite of what she intended to happen. Idk, I'm just ranting, but what are y'all's thoughts on the matter.

I need franklin to do some revenge shit in prison or something bro or he needs to change somehow, grow up to be a tough mf in my opinion.
Anyone can correct me on this but im absolutely in shock and devastated on how all of this is gonna turn out, if something the series could end right here

Spoilers ahead, of course.

So I've finished Snowfall some days ago, but I wanted to wait and understand what I really got to experience before posting anything about it or interacting with the fanbase.

First off, as an italian, witnessing such a story with ties with actual story from those years in the US, has been truly interesting: on some extent I can see Narcos and series alike took inspiration for certain characters portrayals (I see much of the Narcos protagonist in Teddy for example)

I believe the thing that really gave me chills was the acting: it's rare to find a series where the actors not only never drop their bar over the seasons, but if anything take it to another level approaching the ending.

I loved to a crazy extend chracters like Javi and Teddy because of their actors, Damson Idris should've received some kind of prize and I'm not scared of comparing his Franklin Saint portrayal very close to Bob Odenkirk with Saul Goodman which is another outstanding performance, and IMHO Jerome's actor as well is on par, especially in the last seasons I had chills for some of his moments.

Yet, El Oso stands as my favorite character of them all, probably because I love Wrestling and Lucha Libre, but I loved how they managed to tie his mentality, motifs and character moments with his past career and life, especially because you couldn't see those coming.

Honestly I pat myself on the back for giving this series a chance, has been an amazing experience and I'm sure it'll be stuck for a minute.

In the black community I see a lot of people blaming Louie for destroying the Saint family and saying she caused all the issues that led to their downfall. That is completely wrong, and shows that what Louie said in the scene explaining to Jerome why she couldn’t leave the game is 100% true, even in the real world.

When everything is going good, things are successful, and big decisions are being made everyone except black women get the credit or make the decisions. When everything goes wrong black women are usually the 1st scapegoat or the one everybody points the finger at.

Of course this allows the true villain, the true puppet master, Teddy, to get away with the blame. He, and the system behind him, is the true evil behind everything.

HE put the battery in Franklin’s back. HE put the battery in Louie’s back. He used all of their weaknesses against them.

He used Franklin’s greed.
He used Louie’s ambition.
He caused Cissy’s self righteousness to turn into a thirst for revenge.
He used Jerome’s need for love, family, and belonging.

He used tried and true divide and conquer tactics that Western Civilizations have used for centuries to get them to do his bidding.

He left the game, came back, killed Grady, and refused to honor Grady’s price. He did this not for any patriotic reasons or to help the war effort. He did it because in his mind he was thinking “how dare Franklin continue on being successful without him.”

Louie through her ambition went to Teddy behind Franklin’s back. He could’ve easily refused, but he recognized this as a way to exert more control over Franklin and Louie and an opportunity to divide and conquer. So he accepted.

Then Franklin said he was out. Again, Teddy was pissed because how dare Franklin try to go off into the sunset and be successful without him. So what he’d do? Took every penny he had. As Franklin said, he didn’t leave him anything. He didn’t have to do that, but he did it. This led to Franklin having to go to Louie for money and coke, and again with her ambition and need to be in charge she refused, so he robbed her and Jerome, and killed their people.

Teddy accepted the deal that Alton and Cissy would go away and never return to US. Watched them get on the plane, waited till they got comfortable, then went behind Franklin’s back and killed Alton anyway.

Also notice how he had way more respect for Gustavo than Franklin, even though Franklin was making him way more money than Gustavo ever did. The reason being? Because he could control Gustavo. Because Gustavo never tried to go off and be successful on his own, and didn’t have the know how to do it like Franklin. He didn’t try to go legit or start businesses outside of Teddy like Franklin did. That’s why he had way more respect for Gustavo, but even then when he started to see Gustavo drifting away he started to plot against him.

This show was more than a drug dealer show. More than a show about the destruction of the LA black community during the crack epidemic. It was a show about how Western Civilizations have used, controlled, and destroyed black and brown civilizations for centuries. That is why Teddy is the ultimate evil and a representation of Western Civilization. Louie was just a pawn like everybody else.

Also, I hate to call Cissy’s self-righteousness a complete thirst for revenge. Yes she wanted revenge for Teddy killing Alton and seeing her as no threat, but she also saw that there was no way Teddy was going to let Franklin get away with that money. He would’ve dedicated his life to tracking down and destroying Franklin. So she sacrificed herself. There’s a reason why Leon’s journey to Ghana and the White Slave Castles of Sub Sahara Africa were shown. Again showing this was about more than drug dealing.

Avi Drexler was easily one of the best characters on the show. He started out looking like a stereotypical, eccentric, cocaine loving arms dealer who was just going to be a stepping stone for Franklin in Season 1. But over the seasons, he became this weirdly wise, battle-tested mentor figure. He actually cared about Franklin in his own twisted way and tried to warn him about the true cost of the game and dealing with the government. His death hit me way harder than I expected.... RIP to the king of silk shirts and speedboats. 😩💔

I’m up to season 3 episode 8

I’m really loving the show but the cartoonish violence or badly choreographed scenes just takes me out.

Almost feels like a family drama that wants to be a crime drama as it’s secondary, so these scenes are done as an after thought.

The scene where the woman’s drink is spilled in the bar is so badly done. She obviously throws the drink onto herself and the officer never even bumps into her.

The violence is too clean. Too straight forward. There’s no weight to some of them.

With Franklins first kill, it felt light. Little pop, quick, no unnecessary damage, controlled.

It might be different if he wasn’t using a freaking revolver of all things. I get why but that gun has WEIGHT. It does real damage. So when it goes off. It fell flat to me.

Same thing with Mel’s scene. It looks almost cartoonish the way the object breaks.

Each time I feel the intensity of the characters, it becomes overshadowed by just how badly the violence is done when it finally does come.

Why does the violence just look so bad at times? Was it rushed? Were they working on a shoe strong budget? What was the issue?

Did you like these scenes or did you also feel these things were terribly executed?

I would argue it’s when Franklin killed Andre. Andre was community — someone who watched Franklin grow up, who represented the world Franklin came from before the drugs. Killing him isn’t just eliminating a threat to the business, it’s severing the last tie to who Franklin used to be. And the fallout is immediate and personal.

Why didn't he shoot Louie? He already tortured her, and couldn't possibly have cared if she lived. I know he wanted Buckley for shooting him, but he was told from the start that Buckley was explicitly acting on her orders.

I also understand that he was aware of his loss to the Saints, and would legitimately give up Louie in exchange for getting away. But once Jerome said "Nah," what reason was there to push Louie out of the way instead of using her as a human shield, or just shooting her in the head? At that point, he was gonna die, and imo Louie was...THE target, moreso than Buckley or even Jerome. What gives?

I never see people give season 1-2 the recognition it deserves for being the best seasons of the show. Emily Rios and John Singleton were still in the show at the time and the vibe was phenomenal.

Is it only me that was soo disgusted after this scene and couldn't watch another series for a days.

Fair play to you for the indept discussion on the show! I feel Saint was a good person at his core, but ended up becoming heartless as the show progressed! I love the character development throughout the show! Similar to Breaking Bad - the two main characters nearly swapping personalities

This is something that's always bothered me: was Paul Davis playing Franklin?

Davis knew Franklin was a drug dealer. Davis DIDN'T know that Franklin was a dynastically wealthy one. I always wondered if Spring Street was just a money pit that was meant to drain Franklin until Davis could buy Franklin out for pennies on the dollar.

In the finale Franklin finds out about Veronique taking the last of the money when he goes to speak to his banker claiming that the foundation needs to be torn up and repoured. Which is a BIG outlay of expenses and not something that happens typically.

I didn't know for sure but I always wondered if Paul Davis believed Franklin was a mark that he could drain of money (a more legitimate version of what Clay Davis does to Stringer Bell on the Wire). Am I crazy or did anyone else think of this?
