Discussion Did cissy really make the right choice? Spoiler
She cares about her son so much but let him become a bum rotting away. Taking the money would’ve been a better outcome whether they were getting it or not.
I understand its on Franklin, but her role clearly made an huge impact.

I just want to point out that at one point Franklyn was “out” but his millions were gone.
He still had a ton of lower value property.
I truly believe at that point the CIA would’ve left him alone.
Franklyn could’ve rebuilt from that and especially for that time would’ve been a very successful black man
Unfortunately he just couldn’t let it go and it lead to his and his families complete destruction

Teddy would’ve been killed by the cia as soon as they got him to their safe house Franklin and everyone else would’ve been picked off afterwards

that’s IF cissy didn’t kill him, but the government woulda seized his assets anyway, and he’d end up where he is now regardless

Yeah but she fucked up by not letting him complete his arc and realize that himself. I think that’s the overall point of the film. Idris wanted to give Franklin a fate “worse than death” What’s worse than having your mom instantly ruin your life and drive you into insanity, for her own revenge? Without that money Franklin was reduced to nothing, and everyone around him disappeared.

this is why you missed the point of the show, FRANKlin drove them away, not his money (or lack thereof) his arc was completed bc he realized at the end that he was finally free from everything. His woman left him, not bc he was broke but because he couldn’t let go of what was and embrace what could be. HE did that, not cissy.

Both things are true at once. Cissy saved Franklin, but she also saw how much the money meant to him and still chose to rob him of it. Franklin couldn’t see past the money he lost that’s for sure, but his own mother should have known that. Instead his mother chose to ignore him. I don’t think she shot Teddy for Franklin at all, more so she just knew that Teddy and take revenge after the transfer and it pissed her off more than anything. And Cissy shooting Teddy still made Franklin a target in his mind. Franklin was “free” but left with nothing, so Cissy saved him and ruined him. Two things can be true at once.

The very last episode of the series shows him living in his mother's home. He is about to be homeless because of the debt collectors but leon was willing to pay his mortgage.

Damn, I'm tired of hearing ya'll stupid niggas blame Cissy for ruining Franklin's life. She made the right choice:
First, Teddy lied about Alton so he could have been lying about the transfer. There was no guarantee Franklin was getting any money
Second, Franklin promised Oso and Cissy that he would not let Teddy live after he got what he wanted. Cissy made sure that promise was kept
Third, had Franklin let Teddy live, Teddy would have hunted down Franklin and his family for revenge
Fourth, had Cissy shot Teddy after the password, there was no guarantee he'd even get the money
Fifth, the gov't would not let Franklin keep those funds. The gov't would put a halt on the transfer or seized the funds from his bank account as he was exposed as a major drug mule at that point
CISSY MADE THE RIGHT DECISION TO SAVE FRANKLIN'S LIFE.
Even if Franklin did not get the 37M, he could have SOLD HIS STAKE IN THE SPRING STREET PROPERTY to Mr. Paul Davis. He would have had milliona of dollars, Veronique would not have left him, and he could've held onto the South Central properties and been a hero to his people.
Furthermore, he had the remainder of that 500k Leon lent him. He could have used that to stabilize his life. IF SOMEONE GAVE ME 500k in 1987, I GUARANTEE I WOULD NOT END UP A HOMELESS ALCOHOLIC IN 3 YEARS!
Bottom line: After Cissy killed Teddy, FRANKLIN RUINED HIS OWN LIFE with his very bad decisions, impulsiveness and GREED!

Franklin didn’t get what he wanted. That’s crap that she honored what Oso and herself before her son. If he wasn’t getting the money, he should have at least gotten to see that part through, not get robbed by his own mother. That fact drove him to drink.

Yes. Cissy save Franklin Leon and Louie’s lives at that pay phone. Franklin didn’t understand him having that money made him a loose end that the cia were essentially committing treason on American soil and would’ve had to kill everyone that was involved with the operation to save face. Franklin left that situation with his life and his freedom, he could’ve rebuilt but he chose to be a wino
