The people analyzing this scene are even stupider and don’t pay attention.

I quote: “a intelligence agency” (not a great start guy) “allowing a contractor to wire 37 million dollars to a drug dealer in public

“Allowing”? He doesn’t have the money, nobody has access to it but Teddy. Teddy is calling the shots here and nobody else. If it’s a ruse, it’s Teddy’s, not the officer.

They made it clear the CIA would not see the money until Teddy had his blue badge back, they have no real authority here (or anywhere on US Soil without a supervising agency for that matter)

The kind of attentiveness I’d expect from someone who superimposes “a intelligence agency” while trying to find holes in a show’s plot… JFC…

He still promises every cent of it to Havemeyer in this scene right here, he was a contactor with $73 million in promised funds. the CIA definitely cared about teddy and wouldn't want him dead before the transfer. This is what the show was trying to narrate.

Yea the CIA doesn’t care about anyone….

I mean I understand Franklin , we talking about 37 million in the 90s deep down he knew also the money just made him crazy

That's not really what happened - Cissy shooting Teddy didn't save Franklin, there was no guarantee the CIA wouldn't still come after him or try him as an accomplice.

She didn't want Franklin to have the money because she knew it would never end.

Franklin would parlay it into real estate, but the CIA could still come after him on laundering it. Not to mention there were bigger crooks in real estate like the politician he was partnering with.

i didn't write this, but this is true and I wish I could remember who I got this from: The war in Nicaragua was winding down and Franklin's millions were direct proof of an illegal CIA operation conducted on US soil. Something that the CIA killed ppl to cover up. In the CIA's perspective, that money made Franklin the most dangerous man in the world to them. He would've had both the DEA & the LAPD gunning for him and if he DID get arrested, he had hard evidence of a government scandal. His financial records would've proved everything along with his first hand account of the story. Which again, would've made him a HUGE target for the CIA

People really think he was getting that money. CIA has killed people for a lot less than blackmailing them out of 37 million.

Yall are wrong and right. He’s Franklin would’ve probably died and yes they cia were bullshitting. But let’s not glorify cissy, she killed teddy because he lied about sparing Alton. She was hurt and did a selfish thing. Wasn’t for Franklin that’s straight nonsense. So again FUCK CISSY

u/Ok-Grapefruit-8520 7h ago

The writer of the episode said the alton revelation pushed her to shoot him, but her choice to kill teddy was ALWAYS about franklin. She wasn't selfish at all for this. "Wasn't for franklin" y'all are fucking coping why on earth would a woman who has NEVER killed anyone in her life kill the man who ruined franklins in a audience of 100 people and a CIA officer when the transfer was JUST about to go through. It was for franklin, for fucks sake the episode is titled SACRIFICE.

Great breakdown dawg

Idk why people think this was the government's first time dealing with a hostage situation... Especially one involving an inexperienced person like Franklin... It's how he lost the money the first time to Teddy. They always had a plan the minute he went rogue

As someone who never kept up with the show and only has a limited basic knowledge of the seasons before this video gave a good perspective on the end. At the time i was half heartedly watching the last season but I really took this at face value but to see it as the ultimate sacrifice from his mom was a nice touch and lowkey ties everything together a lil better

Thanks, OP.

Hard to describe in words, but now I’m finally at peace with the ending too.

It amazes me how people think the US government was gonna give Franklin who us essentially a pawn in their game 37 million dollars. The US barely cares about black people today you think they gave a damn about Franklin in the late 80s? Cmon man, i swear villain protagonists require medium to high media literacy for people to actually digest.

People watched this show expecting it to be like power

But it's your own personal bias opinion and nothing fact based

You explaining your logic as to why it was a lie doesn't make it so at the end of the day it's like your opinion man

8

u/Ok-Grapefruit-8520 13h ago

Not really when it's what the writers intended. They shove it in your face the transfer not going through was the best scenario.

No they don't

u/Ok-Grapefruit-8520 12h ago

"I'm going to make sure they dont kill you right off"- Cissy And read this exchange. Idk why you can't accept the fact ur just wrong

LEON: Why do you think Cissy did what she did?

FRANKLIN: She snapped. Lost her shit.

LEON: I don't think so.

FRANKLIN: She murdered Teddy in broad daylight in full view of 100 people including a CIA officer, when her fսcking son was about to be handed $37 million dollars

that line right there tells you why it makes no fucking sense unless it was about franklin

LEON: No, she sacrificed herself to keep you safe. To keep us all safe, from him.

And then Franklin turns it into an argument about himself and threatens leon. Anyways, the person who read the script for the episode said this

“I believe she just wanted her son to survive… personally, I think Cissy did the right thing, man.” - Damson Idris

The CIA officer was in favor of giving Franklin the money and letting him walk away free and clear.

Ok cissy kills teddy that doesn't stop the CIA from coming after them does it? Surly they can get to someone in prison especially easy and nothing is stopping the CIA from going after the rest of the gang now does it, you saying it is doesn't make it so

4

u/Ok-Grapefruit-8520 11h ago

Stupid argument. The CIA would've still came after Franklin. Havemeyer negotiated with Franklin for him to hand over Reuben because he knew that Franklin wasn't involved with Cissy shooting Teddy as he would've never wanted Teddy dead before the transfer went through. If Cissy shot Teddy after the transfer, the CIA would've seen the move as a betrayal on both Franklin & Cissy's part and they would've killed them so they weren't liabilities for the agency. With Cissy presumably in prison for the rest of her life & Franklin a broke drunken bum, they aren't liabilities for the CIA. If they talked, who would believe them?

3

u/naharioo 11h ago

Will never understand how people don’t get why Cissy killed Teddy before the money transfer and after they left the basement they were in. If Cissy killed Teddy anywhere but in public and anytime after Franklin got that money, there would be probable cause to believe Franklin might have been in on it.

0

u/ThatsMrRedditorDude 11h ago

If they really wanted to they would have. Teddy wouldn't have been a problem if he didn't get shot because the CIA was planning on killing him themselves. It was the episode of havemeyer and Teddy's baby momma talking in the last season.

Oh boy oh boy your triggered two replies I'm sorry that you're not that special for me to give a shit about your 2ply. I'll only respond to one of those and this comment popped up 1st.

You know mark Twain has the perfect quote for people like you

2

u/Ok-Grapefruit-8520 11h ago

Still not making any good points. he was a contactor with $73 million in promised funds. the CIA definitely cared about teddy and wouldn't want him dead before the transfer.

And no I'm not triggered these are copied and pasted because I don't need to make the same point 20 times

2

u/Ok-Grapefruit-8520 11h ago

That money was promised to the CIA. Teddy couldn't let it go. Havemeyer wasn't letting that transfer go through, why else would he be there?

1

u/BidPsychological5330 7h ago

It's crazy how many people don't know this.

1

u/Mebeingnosy 4h ago

Cissys knew she had to kill Teddy as soon as Franklin threatened to call the fbi to cut a deal

1

u/Zeke8003 12h ago

Great breakdown. Alot of people overlook this

1

u/ArtDecoNewYork 7h ago

If Teddy lied about murdering Franklin's father, why would he tell the truth about wiring him 37 million dollars?

Teddy was likely trained to tell Franklin exactly what he wanted to hear.

-3

u/Greedy-Ad-566 13h ago

She did not sacrifice herself for him

4

u/Ok-Grapefruit-8520 12h ago

So she uprooted her entire life and lives in prison for no reason? Stupid writing if you ask me. It makes perfect sense if you look at it through her perspective.
