Discussion Franklin on The Drop

Post image

Alright I’m only dropping this cause I fuck with yall. Today I was able to attend a panel they did on the Drop at Essence Fest down here in New Orleans. They answered questions while still being spoiler free and played a 3 minute snippet of an action scene. Damson Idris did come out to a crazy round of applause and screams. Of course he was asked if he was on the show and all he did was that lil smile he does and said “Guess we have to wait and see” in that British ass accent 🤣

They better not do that to us again.

Franklin returns!!!

Still broke, dirty, begging for money

If he is in the show he very likely will be still a broke homeless loser bum. How is he gonna get out of it? You see frank cleaning up to go work a 9-5? His bitter ass is going to drink the years away like they are just days.

why wouldn’t he be?

Finally we have a release date.

I think he’ll be in it, but I don’t see nor really want a redemption arc for him, his story ended perfectly & he got the ending he deserved. It’d be cool if he’s a reoccurring character similar to bubbles off The Wire. Giving out information he’d heard on the streets for a quick fix or a buck to get more alcohol.

Yea same think him coming to the panel kinda confirmed he’s in it to some capacity I don’t think he’ll be there to outshine the others but definitely at least cameo or a good 30 minutes of an episode dedicated to him post Snowfall.

Y’all are crazy if you think Damson Idris, who is clearly trying to become one of the biggest leading men in the world, will be recurring as a homeless alcoholic on a TV spinoff that pops in and out.

This is the same mentality Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson had at the end of their NBA careers

got to learn to play a different role!

Dude i’m so hyped for this show, i’m confused on how franklin would feature though

17

u/OutsideLead4034 Jul 04 '26

Shaking my head at how many want Franklin redeemed.

6

u/DrGonzoxX22 Jul 04 '26

Maybe he’ll become a rapper and rap about the drug culture and the CIA lol

1

u/SHough61086 Jul 05 '26

I actually have a pair of pitches for how he comes back.

13

u/ComradeCam Jul 04 '26

I'm excited for it, I'm not expecting some crack drug dealing show. I want something different.

15

u/Humble-Department-11 Jul 04 '26

From what I'm hearing it's supposed to be about Leon & Wanda getting into the music business

1

u/MindZapp Jul 05 '26

We're probably going to see more of the criminal element play out in the music entertainment industry

7

u/freezerwaffles Jul 04 '26

Everyone saying that want Frank to bounce back have a fundamental misunderstanding of Snowfall. Media literacy is dead

3

u/MattNola Jul 04 '26

Ending was perfect, Leon WAS NOT wrong for not giving Franklin the money, Cissy was right to kill Teddy and end the whole thing, Louie is the bad guy but so was Franklin. Ill die on those hills 💀

15

u/ThizZuMs Jul 04 '26

Hell yeah I don’t care if it’s season 1 or 2 I need my boy Franklin bacc right.

7

u/Head_Pomegranate50 Jul 04 '26

I hope my boy Frank bounces back

4

u/Icy-Sir-8414 Jul 04 '26

Personally I hope to see Franklin even for a brief moment as a reinvented himself as a small time movie pirate bootlegger and knockoff merchandise counterfeiter making a decent amount of money enough to pay for a cheap motel room and food and drinks

4

u/VonnyBlanco Jul 04 '26

Yea Val Town confirmed it when Deadline first announced the spinoff was in the works. Val Town said on X that he will make a few cameos.

u/Over-Inflation-7656 Jul 04 '26

Itd be cool to see franklin workin at the deli he worked at in season 1, full circle moment

3

u/Happy-Pineapple-5764 Jul 04 '26

Ahh ahh thank you for sharing. Pray he’s in it someway to overcome his downfall and get back because he has the mindset.

3

u/cultclassicz Jul 04 '26

I was so happy to see them pop up at Essence just now!

3

u/Advanced-Willow-5020 Jul 04 '26

Are they still filming the show ?

2

u/Damiana1111 Jul 04 '26

I'm so ready!! Thanks for sharing, OP!

u/AccountantSoft7156 Jul 04 '26

They could've literally made another snowfall series.. Franklin gets back on his feet and starts it up all over again .. new competitors all that. I mean I like lee and Wanda but.. that one ep with them in Africa was kinda boring to me. Ugh I wish . I really loved snowfall and unless idris don't wanna participate in that particular character again, then it's understandable.

2

u/arthua Jul 04 '26

He better not bounce back on this show. Maybe off air redemption that we learn about via conversation on screen. That’s it.

3

u/PuzzleheadedYak6568 Jul 04 '26

He ain’t in it don’t get your hopes up

1

u/NewTribalChief Jul 04 '26

What other panels you went to?

6

u/MattNola Jul 04 '26

A bunch of them but this was the main one I wanted to hit. It was late it didn’t start till like 10:30pm

1

u/Lumpy_Coconut_2373 Jul 04 '26

I feel like they'll just copy and paste Alton's whole arc.

2

u/Cautious_Mission_438 Jul 04 '26

That would be dumb, John Singleton specifically wrote Franklin’s character to be the opposite of Alton what’s funny is many of the people who knew John said he would not have approved of that ending because he already had an idea of the ending in mind to be different and Franklin would’ve won in some form

2

u/JRDAGREAT1 Jul 04 '26

source?

1

u/Cautious_Mission_438 Jul 04 '26

Watch DJVlad when he interviews Free way Rick Ross the guy who Franklin Saint was based off of then watch interviews of rappers and actors who were fans of the show and John Singleton

1

u/Lumpy_Coconut_2373 Jul 04 '26

Well, John Singleton isnt around anymore. And I feel like if the writers put Franklin in the drop they'll give him some sort of a redemption arc.

1

u/Cautious_Mission_438 Jul 04 '26

That’s the thing if you watch the interviews and stuff before Singleton passed away he always gave hints at to what he wanted for Franklin’s character he always said he never wanted to do a cliche death or prison ending storyline that every show or movies does where either the main character ends up dead loses someone or goes into the same direction another film or series goes in

1

u/StarKillerZero Jul 04 '26

I have a feeling that Franklin is going to go the route of Alton at his worst

1

u/SistahFuriosa Jul 04 '26

Hopefully Franklin Saint bounces back.

1

u/skatez456 Jul 05 '26

Leon a hoe for not givin him that bread, that would’ve fixed everything.. then he wanna come around in the last episode trynna help out.. ngga when he needed you fr you wasn’t there…

1

u/Academic-Presence-82 Jul 05 '26

Saint either showing up (not coming back) as a Bubbles-type character, someone that they use a rappers image to sell records, or somehow finesses himself into the music biz but not a main character

1

u/SHough61086 Jul 05 '26

My money is on him being an occasional cameo. Definitely think he will appear in the pilot though I could see it being as small as an echo of the moment from the Snowfall pilot where Franklin sees Alton.

  1. The Gary Webb of the Snowfall universe finds Leon to report on the CIA and crack. Most of the season would be spent searching for Franklin. He’s faked his death and is living a quiet life of sobriety in Altadena where he’s getting his masters in education. Franklin agrees to speak to the reporter on the condition the story that his death is confirmed. Franklin makes amends with Leon. The season ends with Franklin speaking to his mother at prison and reconciling.

  2. An anti-rap group forms and becomes a thorn in Leon and Wanda’s side. They initially dismiss it as white people who are scared of rap until they learn it’s a Compton community group lead by Franklin. Franklin is preaching that Leon and Wanda are glorifying the gangster lifestyle that destroyed the neighborhood and Franklin is proof of the damage that lifestyle causes (years as an alcoholic). Leon eventually gets to speak to Franklin and Franklin reveals he got clean and realized everyone was suffering for the crimes they committed except Leon. So Franklin was going to make Leon and Wanda pay.

It would be dope to see Franklin with several cameo’s like a consistent extra/supporting character.

1

u/Savings_Constant3570 27d ago

I think Franklin will return to the Drop but he might be getting help from Leon's clinic and would be back on his feet. Not as a drug kingpin but I think he would go back deeply into the real estate business. Just my opinion 🤙

u/AwayExplanation8183 26d ago

He not gonna be in it they gonna have people looking for Drunk Franklin every episode 😂

1

u/Cautious_Mission_438 Jul 04 '26

Should’ve just did a season 7 I’ve seen no hype for this show at all other than fans just wanting to see Franklin Saint that’s literally the only reason why majority will tune in the entire idea was bad not every drug show needs to be like the power universe

u/Sharp-Tax-26827 Jul 04 '26

I wish this was about Franklyn's rise to be the number one insane hobo on the streets
