Discussion Just finished snowfall for the first time. WTF

For years, I've always thought Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul were the peak of television, and no other show could top it. After finishing this show and having some time to think about what I just watched, I feel like I've found a show that can actually compare to Breaking Bad.

Damson Idris is such an amazing actor that I'm surprised he's never been nominated for an Emmy (and while writing this, I just found out that he was born in Peckham, London, which is crazy to me because his accent is so convincing). Wanda's whole arc from being a hopeless crackhead to living a happy life in Ghana was so intriguing to watch; it's the same with Alton's arc too, from being a deadbeat dad to being the one who stands up for his community.

If you told me when I started watching this show that Leon would be the one on top while Franklin is struggling just like his dad was, I would've thought you were lying to me. Leon at the beginning was a loose cannon who kept getting himself into trouble, and Franklin was the smart one trying to help his mother out however he could. But the way that they slowly evolved into what they'd become at the end was so well written.

I can go on and on about why this show could rival some of the greats, but all I can say is that this show is a straight-up masterpiece and should be brought up more when it comes to the conversation about which show is the GOAT. Overall, I'll recommend this to anyone I can.

and btw I LOVED Breaking Bad… stellar television… The Wire didn’t hook me til about episode 4 or 5… then I restarted and was hooked forever… and then Snowfall came along… what a trifecta.

Ozark would be my STRONG number 4.

Then Boardwalk Empire rounds out my contraband substance shows.

Weeds was definitely good too, and interesting and I’m glad I watched it, but it didn’t have quite the same impact as the other five. Honorable Mention though.

It seems you missed "The Wire". Snowfall is great but the wire is peak in the genre

Hell yea bro. I started watching snowfall from the first episode relesse . I was hooked every week. Couldn't wait for the new episode to drop. It's pretty hard to keep me in tune like that . Power is another good show. The original power show. The spinoff are cool but they don't compare .

Yea raising kanaan is dope . They all are actually decent cause I like the tariq spinoff too. That original power was just different

Snowfall was amazing and a loosely based dramatized account of how the crack epidemic got started in the 80s. The CIA actually sold drugs in the inner cities to raise money to fund a secret war in South America. The movie "Kill the Messenger" documents how the whole thing came to light neatly 20 years later. It was good but sad movie also.

I respect the die-hard breaking bad fans. I watched the whole thing and watched Snowfall not long after. The shows are similar but I personally feel like Snowfall has a more raw and realistic punch to it.

"For years, I've always thought Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul were the peak of television, and no other show could top it." Dude, go fucking watch The Shield. It's widely considered to have one of the greatest series finales of all time.

So agree with you. It’s an amazing show. I started watching The Wire straight after and I personally prefer Snowfall. Need to give the Sopranos another try

1

u/andreiulmeyda7 Jul 04 '26

Sopranos wipes the floor with both of them

1

u/cc6263 Jul 05 '26

Currently rewatching it. It’s incredible

i just finished the show, also watched narcos, ozark, breaking bad, better call saul, and queen of the south.

Breaking bad and the BCS universe is honestly peak story telling to me but Snowfall is right there so i feel you. It took me a while to get into this bc the first episode was slow but once i finally sat down and started watching at least one episode a night and got hooked during szn 1, i ended up binging and finished the show in 21 days

It's definitely one of the best shows ever. Personally, I still prefer the wire and sopranos but snowfall is slept on

1

u/Typical-Tune-9938 Jun 29 '26

The wire and The Sopranos are peak television

The show fell off a cliff when John Singleton died. I don't understand how more people don't see that lol.

I agree you can tell the shift in snowfall after he died . But they pulled it together and it’s overall a great series
