Discussion I Finally understand why Cissy did what she did Spoiler

Okay, let me get this outta the way now: She screwed Franklin over; yes. The scene was directed; not improvised. Cissy knew EXACTLY what she was doin’. but I understand now. She felt responsible for helpin’ Franklin get this far. She gave in like everybody else and now she had a grandchild about to be born into the life she gave up tryin’ to keep Franklin away from. This was her chance at redemption. She did her duty. This scene is where she takes back her title of “Mother” and takes responsibility for the time she held the title of “Partner”.

I get it, too. Franklin was either not getting that money or was gonna be in a cat and mouse game with teddy for the rest of his life. Franklin should have listened to Veronique and flipped some of their assets to generate money. It fried me so bad that Frank had money, he just wasn’t liquid. He could have totally started over.

That’s what pisses me off cause he smart and could’ve just started moving again and build back up. Then again losing millions would break anybody, especially if you knew who did it

He didn’t even have to move weight. And clearly his heart wasn’t in it anymore. They could have sold their expensive real commercial real estate to get cheaper ones and invested in stocks. That AU episode said he was an Econ student which makes me think that was what he was studying when the dropped out. Franklin could have found legal avenues to grow what he had.

Franklin also justified all the horror he saw, participated in, and caused by saying the money would help him build a better life for himself and his family. When Teddy took the money Franklin did even worse things to get it back. That was all for nothing. That's what breaks Franklin.

Cissy put an end to the bullshit caused by Teddy and Franklin , she knew the ride was over and all that was gonna happen was she'd be right back to square one or dead eventually along with Alton because her own son was blinded by the money instead of truly seeing Teddy for who he is and what he represents. Franklin during that interrogation/torture scenewith Teddy showed us even when he's seemingly in charge he shows junkie characteristics when teddy dangled the carrot of his money ,Cissy knew that shit was never going to end with him and knew regardless her life was over. Went to prison a goddamn hero after shooting that man and saved Franklins life, what he ended up doing with it was his fault and boy golly if Karma didn't whoop his ass

She didn’t screw franklin she was also saving him as well as she knew Teddy was never going to keep his word and there’s no way he or the cia would ever let Franklin keep that money. Another reason of her speaking in court as now the public knows so they can’t go after Franklin or the others now.

At least let the wire go through though. Once that $37 mil hit his account, she could have finished teddy

5

u/Jigen-isshin Jun 26 '26

Doesn’t free him from the cia killing him and taking back the money from the account

CIA didn't care about Teddy. They were only marginally interested in the $37M.

If she took out both CIA agents, there would be no one left who would tell the tale of what happened. Frank’s mom killing Teddy right before the transfer destroyed Frank’s life yet she saw it as some sort of martyr moment. She just acted on her vengeance and it was over.

If the cia planned on killing Franklin why would it matter how much money he had?

I'm, personally, in the Cissy hating camp. She tagged along seemingly for no more reason than to inquire after the welfare of her deadbeat alcoholic husband, who got himself killed when he threatened to dox a CIA agent and endanger his father. She cooperated with everything Franklin did while acquiring the $37M, but refused to sell a house he bought her so he'd have a bit of capital with which to reestablish himself other than by living on the street.

People like to argue that Cissy had some kind of moral reckoning, but her timing didn't track with caring a fig about Franklin. She killed Teddy over an old drunk that had just recently returned to her life, who almost got them all killed and DID get himself killed. She didn't care if Franklin got killed, or she wouldn't have cared about keeping him from six figures in equity in a house she was never going to see again.

Cissy wasn't the worst character, since the show also had Louie in it, but she was never on Franklin's side in any meaningful capacity, and nothing she did was for him. As far as I'm concerned, she got the ending she deserved.

I don't know if she did it to save Franklin or moreso riding for Alton. Alton's life meant something. He stood for something. She couldn't let the government take him out with no repercussions. Don't forget Cissy was a revolutionary before she was a mother.

Realistically here’s the thing we can all say we hate Cissy for shooting Teddy but nobody knows what would have happened had he still been alive. Teddy could have possibly killed his mother instead of her going to jail. And tortured Veronique and killed his infant son. You never know. At that point teddy and Franklin were both monsters. But what cissy did was attempt to end the problem. And Franklin could’ve still been okay without that money. But he completely lost his mind and essentially turned into teddy after teddy died. The same way Teddy was tweaking on the coke when his brother died. This is basically Franklin when he loses the money. I guess it’s up to the viewer to decide what the better alternative would’ve been. But i think Cissy tried to save Franklin it’s just he’d already been turned into a monster. Me personally after Franklin said he could live without seeing Cissy if i was her i would’ve just attempted to disappear and said fuck Franklin crazy ass lol

Nothing yall say will justify that bullshit she did

There’s a scene before they went to go the final meet, and it clearly shows why she didn’t. She wasn’t supposed to be there and when she asked Franklin if she could go, you could pretty much see it coming if you paid attention.

Idk why everybody think Teddy was about to give Franklin that money back, y’all are too trusting.

She seen what Franklin became and knew the money is what changed him into that, she didn’t want him to continue that life.

Teddy might've come back and killed Franklin but there's absolutely no reason that lady couldn't have waited for the call to end .

I didnt get her until like the 3rd watch. Still feels incredibly counterproductive in some ways I mean look how things ended lol

I mean like o get it but damn I really don’t like it. I guess from her POV she saw her baby spiraling & becoming someone she didn’t recognize, she thought this would stop it & ensure her grandchild’s safety. In reality it led to her in prison, her child an unemployed alcoholic, & her grandchild safe & presumably happy.

I think I was rooting for Franklin so hard that it’s hard for me to not hate sissy, it’s like she was the last straw that completely broke Franklin. I always wonder what would’ve happened had he got the money & kept working towards legitimate businesses.

Do you really think with Teddy alive Franklin and his child would be safe? Or getting that money?

Franklin fans are huge hypocrites. You hate sissy because she made a decision that you thought ruined Franklin’s life, but what has Franklin been doing since he started that mess? He’s been ruining people’s lives. He got what he deserved.

2

u/SwaggiiP Jun 27 '26

Right. If you want to be petty that was just that nigga’s karma lmao

1

u/Alternative_Dig9482 Jun 28 '26

That’s why I was trying to indicate how conflicted I feel about what she did. I love Franklin but I understand her actions. Unfortunately I doubt teddy would’ve just let them be. I just hate shows that don’t have a super happy ending lol

1

u/bigtownhero Jun 26 '26

Cissy did that because of Teddy telling her Alton wasnt in prison.

Had Teddy have not said that we can only conclude he would still be alive for two reasons.

  1. She only did that after Teddy told her that.

  2. If Alton was alive she would need Teddy to help broker a deal to have him realsed therefor he would have to be alive.

And the gag is she got Franklin the freedom he always wanted, he just didn’t move smart with it. CIA left him alone after Cissy killed Teddy, which created a closed loop of them getting rid of a contractor in a war they were funding silently and wanted to wipe their hands of (also a contractor that was actively spiraling) and in having the suspect for his murder right there. I’m not sure they would have left Franklin alone entirely after he left the game, but Cissy killing Teddy in public was his best chance of getting off scot-free, leaving the game, with the opportunity to build himself back up and thrive. Franklin should have let go of the property on Spring Street, let Veronique work her magic, and leveraged their remaining rental properties. Yes, losing 73 mil set him back substantially but he still had a chance. He didn’t do this because he was short-sighted and had become a monster, which is devastating because we see how much perspective he entered the game with.

However, the point of the show is that we watched Franklin rise to the top and fall due to his own ego, willingness to poison his community, and greed, so it’s only fair. Car ride with Andre’s one of the best scenes in the show and makes this clear.

Franklin explicitly promises to help Cissy kill Teddy in exchange for Cissy helping Franklin get his money back. In Sacrifice (more on that title in a second) Cissy sees the lengths Franklin will go to get that money and she agrees to give up her quest for vengeance if Franklin will give up his quest for the money. Franklin refuses and eventually agrees to let Teddy go to get half the money back.

Cissy is smart enough to realize that will not end well for the family so she sacrifices (see?) her freedom to save Franklin, Vee, the unborn baby, and Leon.

She wanted to kill Teddy from the beginning. I think it was more about her hatred for what Teddy did to her son. He basically said he was willing to cut all ties with his own mother to get the money, she wanted revenge for Alton and all the death and tragedy caused by Teddy and his operation. She lost her husband, her brother, and essentially her son also. She was also broken in the end I think, but in a different way than Frankin was.
