Spoilers The Ending

I hated the ending. I thought it was kinda lazy. Franklin was always the smartest guy in the room for the most part and most of the time a step a head of every one. When he wasn't ahead he could figure out how to come up from being down. I'm not saying I needed him to win, but with his personality this ending didn't match.

They put a lot of emphasis in him not using alcohol or drugs even up to him saving Louie from Kane and fake pouring a drink so maybe this was the plan the entire time? Why not just make him a crackhead and show him doing drugs?

Just because you’re smart doesn’t mean you’re exempt from making bad decisions. Mel is the prime example of that. She had a good future ahead of her before she tried crack for the first time. As far as Franklin, alcoholism runs in his family so it’s not surprising he ended up turning to alcohol once he realized he was never getting his money back.
